Ok time for an update, the valves have been replaced and now a new problem has popped up, blown piston rings or pistons. The car started up once the head was put back on but apparently there was an insane amount of blow by, if you loosened the oil cap it would be thrown right off. The block is going to be taken out and sent to a machine shop to be looked at and have them either the piston rings or the piston rings and the pistons are going to be replaced, which could mean waiting weeks to get the parts from Japan. The saga continues....

dude. It sucks, but this is my dream scenario I almost kinda hope something like this happens so I can finish off my engine with HC pistons.

Keep us posted if the mechanics find any big bits of something.

I don't remember if this has been disussed but: oil. Was there enough? What brand/weight are you running?

good luck!

I'm fairly certain that the oil was fine, I had it replaced not too long ago (less than 1000 kms I think). As for putting in high compression pistons, I'm not gonna be going there, I just want my car up and running again, as fun as having to get the thing tuned along with fixed would be....

Alright while looking for possible replacement pistons (in case they actually are screwed to all hell) I came upon the Wiseco pistons offered by Buschur Racing for only 400$. Only problem I can see is they are 10:1 compression not 9.5:1 compression, would I need anything special to use these or can they be run like stock (more or less)?

I have no idea what you could have done to cause that... it's unreal.

Did they atleast do a compression check after they found the blowby?

Almost every lancer i know when you pop off the oil cap at idle has some force there... not really blowby.

sucks man... feel bad for your loss.

Yes you can run the pistons without any kind of tuning needed. Hell, I am, and I think I'm running rich. Car feels a lot stronger but I miss my piggyback/tune to get the full amount of power out of the engine. And they aren't 400, they are 300 last time I checked. I got mine overnighted and it came to 345 shipped. Call buscher, they still have a couple sets left and they are cheaper than stock pistons. If you weren't in Canada you could buy a whole engine for 400... I got mine for 400 + 200 for lifetime warranty.

Another wonderful update, my pistons are melted. The mechanic has to first remachine the cylinders and after that replace the pistons and the piston rings. Depending on how much machining is necessary I might be going with the Buschur normal pistons, RRM pistons, or the Buschur overbore pistons. Basically, my engine got proper fu<ked. How this happened from a simple manifold install I have no idea.

WTF?!
My scenario: leaky IM gasket (maybe not tight enough) causes lean condition?

damn, sucks broham.

Yeah I haven't the damndest clue about what happened, only things I could think of are a faulty sensor, or something like that.

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but you may be letting too much air through for the idle air controller (IAC) to handle. The IAC stalls just as easily when there's too much air as it does when there's too little. Try toying with the screw a bit if you haven't been able to fix it yet.

EDIT: Sorry to hear about the pistons. Guess it was something more than just idle that was the problem.

Either way I will have spent enough money on my engine, if you combine the repairs and the mods, to buy a turbo kit.

Uh my problems are way bigger than simply stalling, I've had 4 valves replaced and now my piston and piston rings need replacing. By the end I will have spent 4k$ on the rebuild. On the plus side I might have some new higher compression pistons.

Yeah, I didn't read all the thread when I posted that. Car's back in your hands now though?

Nope, it's dead with melted pistons and fried piston rings. I'm waiting for the mechanic to find out the specs for the pistons I need so I can contact Buschur or RRM.

Ok my block has been dealt with (well sorta) and now I just need to get the pistons, rod bearings, and main bearings. Are any aftermarket companies making rod or main bearings? I've read that the rod bearings are color coded, is it the same situation for the main bearings?
