clearing the CEL from header...

^ i think the melting youre refering to must be when you use the MIL eliminator(resistors spliced inline with the wires). am i right? The one i have lookes like a threaded pipe with one open side and the other with a small hole in it...it spaces the o2 sensor further away from the header which i thought was supposed to help it read a cooler temp?
Is it okay if i leave the o2 gapper up at the header instead of the second cat for now? or will it cause problems?

No, he means that. It's a little piece of metal that spaces out the spark plug. It's not built to be in the header! The first O2 sensor is SUPPOSED to read hot air. The 2nd sensor reading clean air means that the 1st cat (which your header removed) is working.
You will melt the gapper.
Move it to the 2nd O2 sensor.

Move it to the 2nd O2 sensor.

I just did the cel fix the other day on my car with the Help! non-foulers. You have to put them on the second sensor and you have to drill one of the non-foulers out with a 1/2" bit to make a little chamber for some air to get to it. Otherwise it will still throw a cel for being slow to respond/not receiving a reading. Then you have to reset the ecu to clear the code. After a set number of trip cycles, not sure how many but usually around 80 miles of driving it seems on my car, you should know if it worked or not. Mine still hasn't come on and I am glad.
