suspect: cv joint - culprit: ball joint?

Well I've had my fun the past couple months with the annoying "click" during left hand (and sometime right hand) turns. The sound definately seems to be coming from the passenger side. I've read on here this usually means you have a busted CV joint/boot.

Took my car to my friend's shop last week. The head mechanic found that my ball joint (passenger side) had a lot of play in it (loose). He seems sure that this is the source of my sound even after what I told him about the Lancer's CV joint/boot problems.

So my question is- Could the loose/weak ball joint be causing this problem?

Also getting my Depo Cedias installed. Will post pics...

Bad CV joints sound like rythmic popping knuckles when you turn. Do circles in the parking lot and listen. If its not rythmic I doubt its the CV.

Plus I have never seen a bad CV joint that didn't have a ripped boot. I'm sure its possible but I would think its unlikely. So check the boot.

Boot rips dirt gets in, gradual failure ensues. Or boot rips, someone replaces it without cleaning the joint out completely and repacking it and it fails but the boot isn't ripped. Do you know the history of the car?

yea only service before I bought it was regular maintenance and replaced radiator hose.

The sound definately isnt rhythmic.. it happens more over uneven pavement or during sharp turns

Do tight circles in a parking lot and see if its rythmic then.
