There's nothing modern about the cat since it's switched over to the honeycomb style. It still needs to get up to operating temperatures to work efficiently. Why do you think vehicles fail smog inspections when they're not warmed up properly?

True but there isn't a car out there that will spew out unprocessed exhaust fumes as would be necessary to get that rotten eggs smell. If a brand new car is doing that, something is wrong with the emissions system.

My 08 S2000 has a strong exhaust smell when I first start in the morning, bad enough that I quid backing it in, not quite the sulfur smell but pretty strong. I'm gonna have to try it on the wife's lancer tomorrow morning and see what I get.

My car smells on startup but it's just cause it's running rich until it warms up, it's almost a fuel smell. That's very different than a malfunctioning cat though.

rotten eggs

my car just started smelling like rotten eggs, its not the catalytic converter especially my bank 1 cuz I had it replaced.long story short I had an overhead gasket gone bad and I had an oil leak and into the cat and both fixed.. Maybe less than 2000 miles on the new cat assy. Gas is the same as always, no change.
