Rotten Eggs Lancer

What up fellas,
Just wondering if anyone is gettting the Sulfur/Rotten Egg smell emanating from their new car? I have not taken mine to the dealer yet but from what I know of vehicles with Catalytic Converters, this is a sign of a failing Cat. What do you guys think?

failing? not always. I got rotten eggs from my GTS after I took it out for it's first real flogging in the mountains. After that one hard run, I have yet to get the smell again. I considered it to be part of the break-in/wear-in process.

Now, if you're smelling it all the time no matter how hard you run... I might be concerned and go have it looked at.

I have 15,000 miles on my car, and lately I've been getting this smell a bit. It seems to be bad though if I turn on the heat or open the vents or anything. It only usually happens though after I push the car really hard, and it isn't too bad of an odor at all.

ummm spray the lysol into you cabin air intake. On the right of the hood cowel. You can buy stuff too but lysol works as well, just roll the windows down with the a/c and fan on full and run it for a while 10 mins or so. Spraying it on the radiator will do nothing.

How did you guys get to smelly air ducts from me knowing it is my car's exhaust? All I was wanting to know is if anyone has had a bad Catalytic Converter on their car yet. Anyway, thanks for the tips on getting my car to smell like a bed of flowers.

lol i hadnt read the top of the post...I am bad at that

But just warning people not to spray their rad with lysol

Ummm... rotten eggs....does sound familiar from schooling but i cant recal as I work on class 8 trucks with no cat's, but DPF's (diesel particulate filters).

So I can't help you but maybe google it, also if you have a friend with a 4 gas analyzer for cars, you can try to simulate driving with it and really see how low your readings are

First thing I would do it take it to the dealer and stick their nose on the tailpipe

now i recall a little about the training I had... if a cat is working properly it should create heat (600F) I think?! I can't remember but it creates more heat than just the exhaust due to the thermal processing of chemicals.

Google it maybe and get an infrared gun?!

if its 5- speed it may be the clutch burning. You may be giving it to much gas before releasing the clutch while shifting etc (if it's a 5 speed always)

nothing is wrong unless you have a CEL, remember there are sensors at the cat stage as well, anything funny going on anywhere in the pipeline from your engine to the cat and your car should pick up on it.

If your car smells like ***, lol buy some car deodorant
