Software update vs. relays replaced ?!

I complained to my dealer about my no-start condition, I even showed them the TSB on this, but they said there is a software update needed that should fix the start problem.

I don't see how a software update can prevent moisture and condensation to form inside the relays.

So I had to wait for like 1.5 hours at the dealer for that and an oil change.

It says on the paper they gave me, that they performed TSB SOFTWARE UPDATE #0813004.

Anyone ever heard about this or it's just bogus? All I wanted was those relays to be replaced since it is such a well known problem.

Now I'm waiting for a hot humid day to test it, but I'm almost sure the "software update" was just bogus to save some money on those relays.

well that makes no sense as warranty will pay the dealer for the relays and labour (which is most likely .3)

I went in the other day for maintenance and asked them to change the relays while they had my car and initially they were going to do it. When they looked at it though they said that my car was not made during the dates for that particular TSB and therefore had a different fix for the problem which I think was a reflash or reprogramming of some sort. Can't tell if it worked yet or not, but it was free with the warranty.

Mine has not started after a couple of trials once in a while during winter. But today it started on the 3rd trial and it was 84 degrees. So I guess replacing the relays won't solve anything, does it need a programming or something? Also how can I find out the date that my car was built.

they did mine today and they said it was an ECU flash. I asked why they didnt replace the relay and they said that isn't what the TSB on cold start is for.

on a side note they also charged me $120.00 for an alignment. Stupid F*ckers

They told me the same thing about the flash. Said something about the date my car was made and it not needing the new relays according to the TSB. Of course it's not cold anymore, so I won't really know if the flash worked or not, but whatever... guess we'll have to wait and see.

^^ when did you get yours?

Mine was the first one off the boat at Vancouver harbour, so I have owned it almost a year soon here.

I got mine in April '07, so it was one of the first ones at least in my area. I think this weekend actually will be a full year with her.

UPDATE:
I just called the dealer and scheduled an appointment about this issue. He told me that they will reprogram the ECU because the throttle plate doesn't open to let enough air into the engine when starting it. he also mentioned the relays but he said that they would just reprogram the ECU.

For those asking when your car was manufactured, you can look at the information plate inside the drivers door.
