What does it take for a vehicle to be "totalled"?
So some of you may have seen the thread about my Lancer crash recently before it was merged into the main huge thread by the mods. I'm wondering if anyone knows what it takes dollar amount or otherwise to have a vehicle considered "totalled". In my situation my vehicle was towed to the tow impound lot after the accident since it was disabled(the wheel was off). The next day the Estimator for the Insurance company went down and assessed the damage right around $9,000. After the weekend it finally reached the Mitsubishi Collision Center. I spoke to the Estimator at the Colisio Center today and he says their estimates are roughly $4500 above the initial estimate, leaving it right around $13,500 in damage. I originally paid around $23,000 for the vehicle and it's probably valued at $20,000 or less at this time. I purchased the GAP insurance through the dealer at the time of purchase. What is required here, who has experience with a situation like this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Also, there is something called a First Party Diminished Value Claim, for the lowering in value due to the fact that it was in an accident but it's not available in all states.
I'm going to go down to the Collision center and get a copy of their repair estimate and start going over it. If its 70% ($14,000) and the FMV of the vehicle before damage was $20,000 then I'm only $500 off from having it totalled, not including Diminished Value.

I had about $10k worth of repairs done to my car, broke the rear passenger control arm, no body or cosmetic damage, the back passenger tire ran over a curb going 40 mph and the passenger side airbags deployed, and my rear passenger wheel was slightly bent. I could still drive it (I drove it to a parking lot about 100 feet away) but i called the insurance company right after that and they took it to a local repair center and the work is warrantied. Took them 3 months to fix and $10k for some reason, plus another $800 because they didn't do a proper alignment and they made me buy new tires.
Overall the way I see it, if there is no frame damage, its near impossible to claim that a new car is totaled.

I just got a call back today, the grand total of the combined estimate they recieved back from the Insurance companies adjuster was $12,670.00. So I said alright go ahead on the repairs, but how much would it be to have the Evo X hood put on instead of the stock one? He called back and said about $700 extra because there is a lot of extra parts that go into it such as insulators. I said go ahead with that, then he called back again and said after they started looking at the Evo hood the system doesn't include the hood scoops and all that jazz and that it would be hundreds extra. So, I asked if we could do an aftermarket Evo hood, he said I could look around to see what I could find and call him back. I came up with the SEIBON EVO X CF hood which is only $639.00 with shipping. That minus the $400 the insurance would have been paying for the OE regular lancer hood = only $239 cost for me! Can't wait!
