AC/heat stuck, won't move. Sun roof problem too.

1) Ok, the knob in my 03 OZ won't turn to its coldest output or to heat what so ever and only gives out one setting of coldest... The knob will only move
a little bit, basically its like its stuck. Its not very cold, and with winter coming, theres 0 heat. Though here in MI, i never use AC.

I bought the car when I lived in AZ. I was told this is a common problem and a local mechanic in AZ told me it was a 400$ fix...but then again, he also told me I needed new brake pads/rotors, new rear shoes, valve cover was leaking and a number of other things... that DIDN'T need changing and WASN'T leaking. He said it was intentionally put that way for whatever reason.

Anyone know what it could be, or where i could get a good deal on parts?

2) One day i pulled in, went to close the sun roof, went half way and started making a crazy rubbing, rattling type noise. Then it would only shut half way, as if it thought it was closed, but its not. Then when trying to get it closed, as rain was coming, the motor just wouldn't stop, making that weird noise, until i disconnected the battery to the car, then pulled the fuse.

Any suggestions?

the hvac controls stick in the lancers. the manufacture knows about it. even put a TSB about it but did not do a recall. pretty much you have to replace your HVAC control panel.

LOL at your mechanic for saying it is a 400$ fix. call up your local junk yard tell them to send you a HVAC control panel. I got one for 100$.

Thanks bro, I'll be doing this very soon. Yah this mechanic really tried to screw me. Wanted 500$ to do everything but the AC/heat thing. I went else where, and found out everything he said was a lie.

The issue you're having with your sunroof happened to me. The solution - the sunroof motor came loose inside the headliner. The bolts holding in place had come loose over the years and the motor came off track. I was lucky enough to have this happen right at the end of my warranty, so it was covered. Hope this helps.

The ac/heat control knob problem has nothing to do with the control panel. It's the mechanism that stays stuck because crap got in the system.

From the driver side, look where the center console enters under the dash. At that location you will find a white lever. You can move it by hand instead of using the knob and breaking it.

I broke my knob 3 years ago and I just reach under the dash to move the lever and control temps.

I'm going to take it to a reliable, trustworthly mechanic soon. I have a feeling its the Hvac control panel. We'll see soon.

lol, Ok. I guess telling you the facts doesn't cut it... I also guess a known TSB doesn't cut it either. Oh well.
Don't forget to post the mechanic's diagnostic; I'm curious.

I havn't tried your conclusion yet, but I don't need AC or heat yet. I only want it fixed because I'm selling the car very soon for an evo IX. I quickly looked for the leever what couldn't find it. I'll get under there today.

Hey everyone, I am new to the forum... Anyways I have this problem right now also. Is the location of this lever shown somwhere in the service manual? And if not does it move left to right or back and forward? Thanks

Why a manual? You just quoted the post that tells you where it is
It's white, and circular and is pushed/pulled in a circular motion(front to back, or more like top to bottom).

Cool

Thanks for the answers. Sorry for the dumb question. Got it all working last night by replacing the metal cable from the temp control nob to the lever that moves front to back.. Cleaned out the system also so that helped out a lot.
