Couldn't find the diagram, but they're lights that turn on when your lights are turned on. Both sides where blown, which seemed odd, but now everything works.

Not impossible. One bulb may have burned out way before the other one - and you just never noticed...

When I back up to a window at night (just right conditions) - I check my lights in the rearview mirror...
