08 Lancer GTS- Trans stuck in 1st gear

08 Lancer GTS- Trans stuck in 1st gear
Hello Guys,
Been looking for a forum for quite some time now and i came across this today. Tried others, but they didn't seem active. I just recently got an 08 Lancer that i plan for it to be my new project that i can work on. I got it from a gentlemen than says he thinks he messed it up. So towed it to my house. Car runs good but only on first gear, it does not shift to 2nd. When i move the paddle shifters it shows on the dash that i am in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th but the transmission does not shift just stays stuck and rpms go up to 3,000 on first driving at 20mph. I see it has a check engine light on, so i went to the store and bought a code reader. It came up with a code that was P1777. The code reader says "red solenoid" when i called the guy he said to restart the battery (pull the battery for 30 mins) and that it could possibly be a safety feature the car has to protect the transmission from being damaged. When i searched online i did not come across any information other than this page;

Need some advise, i have someone locally selling a transmission to me but i want to make sure that it is what it needs before i buy it and end up with the same problem.
