Electrical Issue. Stumped.

First off, I have a 2003 Lancer ES and I was replacing my (Piece of crap) aiwa stereo with a (better) sony MP-40.

Here's the trippy part though. After I installed the radio, none of the lights in my center console work (air controls, cig lighter light, ash tray, gear selector, emergency blinkers) and the clock doesn't dim like it's supposed to; yet all of the working elements still work (air still works, cig lighter can still light cigs.).

My friend that was following my yesterday also told me that my right tail light is out (brake, reverse and direction lights work, but the normal 'idle' light doesn't work) I've tried replacing the tail light, but the same problem. I also Downloaded the wiring diagram and tried to follow it to the best of my abilities, but I'm no Electrical Engineer.

I also ripped apart my center console and took a voltage reading on the wires that go the the light in the cig lighter. 17 mV. That's lame. Tried replacing the bulb in the tail light, but it had no effect. Completely removed the stereo and it had no effect.

I need a hand before I get a ticket.

I dont know much about that stuff, but whenever i was stumped with things like that, I usually just blew a fuse. So try checking those.

ok. i've been through this. you have either:

1) blown a fuse. this is the most likely situation. check all your fuses, especially the two that are underneath that yellow plastic cover under your hood. they're kinda hard to get to, but look at them CAREFULLY, it's probably one of those two fuses that are blown. also check the fuses under your dash for good measure.

2) blown a fused link in your dimmer, which controls the light to the A/C controls. I DOUBT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED because that fused link also controls the lights to your odometer, which would also be out if this were the case. HOWEVER, if you have checked all your fuses and are ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that none are blown (but be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN), it is worth checking your dimmer to assure that 1) it has a sufficient ground, and 2) it is not blown.

did the same thing. basicly just get your manual fromt the glove box and go to a page in the last quater of the book there will be a diagram of the fuse box and it will tell u which fuses control what. pull out that fuse and see if it blown.... easy to tell since you can see thru them. if it makes and "N" then it works if doesn't it... well there u go, get new fuse ...... My bet is that u blew a 7.5

in the future when doing anything concerning electical issues, disconnect the neg. on your battery, this will keep you from having any problems like this again....it sucks cause you have to reset your clock...but much better than the headaches...
