AEM CAI Mounting bracket broken. With Pics. What do I do?
I went to clean my AEM CAI air-filter today when I noticed the rubber gromet that screws into the little threaded hole down in the fender wall had seperated. This gromet, or mount, supports the lower weight of the CAI... if it's not connected, your CAI is being held up by your MAF and throttle-body (not good).
Here are some pics to help you understand what I'm talking about.
Here is the gromet/mount the way it's supposed to look, not installed of course.
Now here is what has happened to my mount... it's come apart. It looks like it was originally glued together by AEM
This picture shows you how one part has a "bolt like" head sticking out, while the other rubber peice has a recessed shape that fits the "bolt-like" peice on the other half perfectly. They fit together, but need glue or _something_ to keep them together.
Now here is what the mount is supposed to look like inside the fender wall. Keep in mind that the two mount peices (which should be one peice) are only together because I pushed them together... if any weight is applied, it won't hold, and will seperate.
Here is what it looks like with the rubber peice seperated from the "bolt-like" peice.
As of right now I have my AEM supported and held up by fishing line. Very ghetto rigged.
Has anyone had this problem?? What glue can I use?? Can I buy a replacement mount from AEM? If anyone has had this problem, and can help me out, please reply. Thanks

When I had my AEM CAI on my RSX the same thing happened. I think I overtorqued the bracket and it came apart. It's not a very good design IMO. You could either get a new one, or try using some stuff called Gorilla glue to glue it back together. Its one of the strongest glues around and chemically bonds to most anything. You can get it at Home Depot. Hope this helps...

Yeah, Gorilla Glue is the shiz, or you could try getting a long bolt to put through the middle of the rubber grommet, and just mount it with the 1 bolt, not as much spring to it, but it would work.

Dookie: Awesome, I'll try that first.
twardOZRally: Yeah I was thinking about just running my own SS screw threw the damn thing and just mounting it to the inside fender wall.
Thanks for the suggestions.
