Most reliable beater (commuter car)

Most reliable beater (commuter car)
Looking to drop like $5k on a commuter car so I don't have to drive the ol evo 80 miles a day. What would you reccomend for an ol beater for this price range?

ever think of an used civic? good milage and when people try to talk crap cuz u drive a civic...u can whip out the evo 
. They're pretty reliable when you dont do anything to them as well. And uh....if that situation i mentioned happens...u gotta give some details!

here's my commuter/beater - 91 nissan nx1600, not my first choice but i got it for free so i can't complain. i definately recommend a civic or accord as a daily driver. you'll get good gas mileage and easy to mod if the tuner bug bites you.
