Audi A4(1.8T FWD) or Volvo S40(2.5T FWD)
wondering is the S40 T5 better than the Audi A4
T5 is 218hp and 236lb-ft torque...
A4 only got 170hp
but i kinda wanna know what you guys think overall as a car.. not just the engine.

i love the A4 and had the motor in my beetle that i traded for the evo. both those cars were on the list though, if the evo didnt work out, or i decided against it. i love them both, and wouldve got the s40 but they couldnt get it in a manual tranny for at least 3 months. i test drove the automatic and loved it but i really wanted the manual. anyway tough call, but i llike the direction you are going with this. good luck.

Volvo...they are just sooo comfy and smooth...you feel like you are in a bank vault when the door closes...price wise you will get more for your dollar...
Here's the tip
take delivery in Sweden...they fly you and a guest there for free...round trip, and put you up in a hotel...AND ship your car home for free 
and.... in my opinion they are not perceived as being pretentious in the way that some European cars can be

Hmm... the one time I rode in an S40, it wasn't all that comfortable. Actually I thought the ride was a bit rough compared to a BMW 325xi that I had just ridden in an hour before. But that was a few years back.

I have a S40 2005 FWD auto and I can say that this thing will smoke the A4. The S40 has a double variable cams and a nice exhaust sound similar to VW R32 stock. I test drove an Audi 3.0 V6 multitronic and A3 1.8T 180cv and without any doubt the Volvo is better in all ways. See the test drive at C&D and Motor trend, both say that this car seems to have more than 220cv!
The only thing that is better in the Audi is the Multitronic transmission, very good!
In my local magazine the Volvo wins 0-100Km/h compared with BMW330I and A4 3.0 V6
I'm waiting the S40R that comes in 2006...

the new S40 is built on the Mazda 3/Focus platform which has been universally praised. My bro has a "3" and it's a great little car so I'd lean towards the S40 especially since the quality ratings for Audi have dropped catastrophically lately right along with VW.

The new A4 should be out in a few months so you might want to wait for the restyle. The car is completely new.
