WRX question?

I'm not a WRX person but was just wondered if you think it's easy enough to mod a base wrx to out perform an STI or EVO?

My guess is yes, but theres a 70 hp difference between the wrx & sti so I wouldn't think it would be cheap.

Thanks, (GO EVO) HAHA

I used to have an 02 WRX when they first came out and let me tell you, it's not easy at all. Be prepared to shell out major $$$ if you want to outperform an STI or an EVO. I put in close to 10k in mods for power and suspension only to be hitting mid 12's (I'm sure a good driver would have gotten it to low 12's). Subaru's EJ20 & EJ25 engines are just too new compared to Mitsu's 4G63 meaning parts are a lot more expensive.

i dont know what world your comming from, but modding wrx's is cheap and easy as hell.
my brother has a 04 wrx and he is running 12.8 with it. thats FASTER than a sti or evo.
he has
access port (ecu) $600
turbo $600
injectors $400
exahust $500

THATS IT! he was running 13.2 with just the access port and exhaust. a local guy has a wrx wagon with some crazy *** mods.

I used to have WRX and I was running mid-13s with a boost controller, uppipe, downpipe, catback and a K&N drop-in. You are gonna need a turbo to run in STI/EVO territory but EJ20 turbos are relatively cheap and upgraded stockers are very affordable.

there are tons of stupid fast WRX's out here in Denver/Boulder. Many of them wagons lol, and several of these guys are running 12's no probs (thats at high altitude too) Its possible...but one has to think, instead of spending 10k in mods, you could just spend another 6-10K more on the car itself and get the EVO or STi...then mod from there

Yup, I just ran into a guy last night on the highway with those same basic mods you listed elhalisf. He had a wrx wagon and I could tell just by the sound it was making some pretty good power. We got off the highway and pulled up to a light and he said he was runnin around LOW 13's. We both took off really slow at the light, lol.. then at 50 he punched it to show me the power he was makin, and it was pretty dang quick. Hopped right up and took off. Nothing I could even dream of keeping up with in my little lancer. But right now my friend is makin around 500+ hp in his STi, he just got a turbo upgrade, turbo xs bov, injectors, ecu tune, boost controller, turbo back exhaust, etc.. I have a video, taken with a camera phone. Sorry for crappy quality. That was from a 55mph roll or so. Maybe 60mph, I forget.

wrx's hit a glass ceiling with the turbo/intercooler when the evo can go leaps and bounds with it, but my buddy has a ihi vf34, jdm wrx turbo he picked up for about 600 dollars, cobb dyno tuned software 500, and gutted uppipe and ghetto turbo back 600, and can walk away from tuned evos and run away from stock ones- on stock clutch too
