Save up six grand and rent one for a day. Seriously. You only live once, right?

Take an @$$load of pix and videos too, because it will be one hell of a day to be worth the grand it cost, and you'll want something to remember it by.

Stay away from 348 if you can. In fact, try to stay away from any Ferrari pre-355. IN GENERAL, they tend to be less reliable and difficult to drive.

I haven't tried the 456 myself so I can't comment, but that car is more of a "grand tourer", which I personally do not prefer (I don't know about you though).

If you can, try to get a 355 instead. You won't be dissapointed

I'd say the 348 is borderline. 355 is definitely better, and better looking.

Just find a cheap over looked exotic like the lotus or porshe 944. Or any type of eurpean car that someone has almost let die. dump a little cash and imagination into it and you'll have a cool looking car. Or buy a regular car and dump alot of imagination in to it. Anything different will always turn heads. But for me it about what I think will look cool and make me look at it. Details thats what that car industry is all about Just the little details thats hidden. Make alot of hidden stuff.

I have to chime in here
The purchase price of a Ferrari that is not under warrantee is just a starting place. Maintenance can truly be outrageous especially if something fails!

Ferraris are almost never driven daily in the US. It is sad really but most buyers are posers and they are treated like princesses and generally not driven aside for show. Unfortunately this sets the standard so using a Ferrari beyond the "norm" depreciates it quickly.

Let me give an example. A couple years ago my brother bought a 355. It was in excellent shape and had all the goodies including the F50 brake upgrade and a Tubi exhaust. My brother is an enthusiast and used the car appropriately. It saw the occasional track day and was seen regularly seen blasting up the canyons. Even so it sat most frequently either in the garage or the local Ferrari shop. In a 2 year period I believe the car acquired 10K miles in his hands.

Let me outline the costs I saw:

1) Purchase price $120K (best guess)
2) Maintenance and valve guide problem (mechanical defect that Ferrari refused to cover – FYI Ferrari treats you like crap unless you own 3 other Ferraris and are on their A list) $20K
3) Car sold 2 years later $85K (another best guess)

Let me summarize: $120K – $85K = $35K depreciation. Maintenance = $20K for basically a top end rebuild and valve guide replacement (this took 6 months!). Total cost of ownership for 10K miles and 2 years: $55K!!!! This does not even include insurance, gas, or tires etc.

Total cost of ownership = $55,000
Cost per mile $55

Moral of the story – don’t buy a Ferrari unless you can truly afford it!

i own an indepentdent Ferrari and Porsche shop here in Tempe Arizona, so if you have any other questions on Ferrari feel free to PM me.

if you plan to buy a 348 that has 30K or 60K, etc., on the clock make sure that the major service has been done. this service runs about $4000 at the dealer level, a little lower at my shop. there are several little issues with the 348 but overall it is a great reliable car.

the 355 is the same but the major runs about $1000 more.

not true...

i have Ferrari customers that buy "cheaper" Ferraris models like the Mondial (maybe 30K on a good day) and such that freak out when they find out that the cracked windsheild will set them back $3000! just an example but you get the idea.

how about $900 retail for a 360 brake rotor, $2500 retail for a 355 water pump...Ferrari parts are just crazy expensive.

most people who own a Ferrari can't afford to mantain them...only a very small percent can.
