Toyota buys stake in Fuji Heavy Industries (aka Subaru)

I went back home for Thanksgiving and my dad told me about this giant move that GM made, and Toyota took advantage of. I searched EvoM but surprisingly, no one has brought this pretty old story to EvoM (this move was in early October).

The basic story is, GM held the largest stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, which is the firm that produces Subaru's. GM decided to get rid of this, and Toyota now claims the 8.7% that GM left behind. This means that Toyota now holds the largest stake in Subaru.

This can lead to many interesting things, seeing that Fuji Industries and Toyota are on good terms and are interested in collaborating. This may make a great impact on Subaru products, it may not. But we'll probably start seeing a collaboration between the two companies, not necessarily like the WRX wagon and the Saab 9-2x, but I'm hoping to see some positive results from this move.

FHI (Fuji Heavy Industry) is a lot more than just subaru. FHI is one of the major japanese mfgrs of commerical ship, and Boeing commercial aircraft sub assys (fuselage tubes).
