Wrx?

I was wondering if a regular 2.0 WRX can make respectable hp and put down nice track numbers without dumping a crap load of cash into them? I hear that WRX's do not respond very well to mods and it takes alot of cash to make them fast, are the transmissions that weak I hear the drive train on those cars are like glass even in stock form, as far as handling goes are they that great handling of cars, track worthy? Just wondering a friend of mine was looking at an EVO or STi but he'd be stretching himself to go with one so he had some questions about buying a WRX, light mods and having it be a nice respectable, quick car.

You hear well, they don't respond well to mods. My WRX had $6000 in engine parts alone, no tunning include or labor or shipping or tax just $6000 alone.

My car did not make a lot of power, only 280whp/255tq and only ran 13.2@104.

My curent Evo ran higher trap speed from factory(no mods). I really don't like the WRX much any more

it all depends on what u think is quick..i have drivin in my friends "lightly modded" wrx (up/dp/tbe and flash) and i am not impressed and this was before i got my evo. Its a good daily driver car i guess i would not waste anytime moding a wrx tho i would prolly keep it stock...you will just end up being let down after all the money u put into it. I would prolly take a ralliart over the wrx.

they can be very nice cars.....if u go stg2 on them witch consits of UP/DP/ TBE and COBB stg2 flash or UTEC then ur making around 250whp or so......i know the stock airbox is good for 300AWHP.
i got a friend that is putting a 18g on his WRX should make around 340-360awp.....cost for the kit was like $3000 or so. injectors,UTEC,Turbo (ported and poshlised)

I had a Ported and polished FP18G, UTEC and PE650cc injectors also, no matter what you put, that engine lacks of soul. 340-360awhp number that you gave us is very unrealistic.

+1, no respect from me anymore. Have him look at the new 2.5 ugly POS's if he must.

It's just that there are SO many other WAY better cars for that price. I won't even go there because it's all personal preference, but there are so many other routes to take.

S2000, new SI, E36 M3, 2nd gen DSM, if your lucky even mk IV supra. The list goes on.. I'm not sure what the price of a used 350z is, but it can't be far off...

in turn however, if he can't make the stretch for the performance of an evo or sti... Wrx's tend to hold their value very well and when he's better off provided he takes good care of the car, he could easily sell the car or get a good deal on a trade in. It's a good starting car, especially when it comes to awd performance.

TELL YOUR FRIEND DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAVE UP, EAT BREAD AND WATER & GET THE EVO!!! If he is looking for a decent cheaper daily driver that hes not going to do anythign else to other than exhaust and stereo than go with the wrx. But it takes too much to make the car fast, and its not worth it.

Spoken from WRX owners lol, see we live in Maine and I told him to go with an SRT-4 if he didn't want to shell out the extra cash for an EVO or STi... however with the addicting mods and cheap cost to make good hp out of those winter drivability goes out the window and he wants ONE car not two

I have a Saab 92x Aero (basicly a saabified WRX) and with the cobb Access Port Stage1 and a catback it has good power for under $1K. Not as quick as an Evo but then again I paid $20K during the GM employee discount for a car that has heated leather, 9 speaker stereo, HIDs, 17in rims, and looks awesome so I am pretty happy.

Just to give you an idea:

Forced Performance 18G Ported and Polished $915
Special (needed) stain steel braided oil line $70
PE 650cc Injectors $575
Turbo Xs tmic $925
UTEC $950
UTEC remote switch $80
Borla Headers $330
Greddy Cat-back $540
HKS Downpipe $190
Turbo XS Up-pipe $200
STI scoop $150
GTspect intercooler splitter $150
Samco intercooler hoses $150
Injen CAI $330
Lineage grounding kit $120
Turbo XS MBC $80
Turbo XS RFL-H BOV $180
------------
$6000 ON PARTS ALONE

Add labor, plus shipping and taxes in some of the parts
Add tunning

End result 280whp/255lbtq on 91oct and 18PSI peak on a Dyno Dynamic Dyno at Dynocomp(Phoenix).

Track times 13.2@104(my best) average 13.3-13.4 @102-104 at SIR, car weighted 3042lbs.

For real guys, the WRX is a waste. I haven't even mentioned the $4000 I spent to repair the tranny twice!!

WRX's are fun, good cars, fair with mods but yes the tranny is like glass, if money is an issue get a used 03-04 EVO for less than a new WRX, faster out of the gate and better with mods, I had an 04 WRX, $5000 tranny swap hurt bad.
