the new gti's are dynoing 190whp...so realistically they have 220ish at the crank 9same as a wrx_. with just a chip, turboback and cai...you are looking at 240whp and 300w tq. yes...off the line vw's are useless, but from a roll they are stupid fast.

funny ad though.

He's completely right, my 1.8t chipped jetta eats wrx's and It is a cheap shot that they are compairing the sti to the Gti, why don't they try going after the R36 b/c it will eat up the sti all day.

The GTI has ~180 Hp in stock where the WRX has ~220hp,are you sure about that?

With an MKV you'll definitely see this tq #, but whp is iffy... If you were talking MKIV, I'd call BS and send you a bag of it to back it up.

i was talking about the mk 5 there.

the mkiv 1.8t got something like 220hp with a chip, 180 stock.

and yes i am 100% sure my stock gti was faster than my brothers stock wrx from a roll...we did it several times. i'd slowly pull on him in every gear. from a standstill, he would always win...naturally. as soon as i put a chip, exhaust, cold air and mbc...my gti would pull on stock evo's from a roll.

the small turbo on the 1.8t and even the new 2.0T didn't need anytime to spool up, it felt like a strong v6 rather than a turbo 4 banger. it's power is linear and direct, unlike the wrx.

i was saying that with the addition of a turboback and cai you will see those whp #'s. vw's really respond to cold air.

That being said, your claims are believable -- I had similar experiences with my '02 1.8t GTI. I can't say I ever pulled on a stock Evo... but had quite a few close roll-on races and surprised the hell out of them!
