Ford Shelby GT500- now with 500 HP
http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/02/f...ated-at-500hp/
"This summer the most powerful Mustang ever will go on sale, and Ford announced today that it would have 25 more horsepower than originally estimated. The Shelby GT500 was just ran through the Society of Automotive Engineer’s ringer of tests and came out the other end with an official rating of 500 hp and 480 ft-lbs. of torque. The supercharged 5.4L V8 uses a roots-type supercharger providing a not insignificant (for OEM) 9 lbs./square inch of boost. Many of the engines components were also borrowed from Ford’s supercar, the GT.
This news certainly makes the battle for domestic dominance interesting, with the Dodge Viper rated at 500 hp and 525 ft-lbs. of torque and the Corvette Z06 coming at a perhaps conservative 505 hp and 470 ft-lbs. of torque."

I think they're still aiming to sell the thing "under 40 grand." (w/o dealer adjustments) I wonder what price bracket the EVO X will fall under.. I'd hope mitsu prices the X aggressively- similar to the current evo pricing.. or I think a lot of people will consider the 'stang.

I just say... who ever comes out with the best built car and the most features (cruise, stereo, ...) and power will get my business. I like the EVO because of the styling. The Cobra's look toom uch like the stock V6/V8 n/a mustangs. for the money it should look the part more. The EVO looks the part for the money. IMHO.
The Cobra's/GT500's are nice tuners because of the forged internals. The "engine" can handle 700 whp.

You will definately see 600rwhp bolt on Cobra's and 700rwhp one with 50-75 shots of sauce. The problem is you can't fit any decent sized tire under the rear, but with a solid axle the rear end breakage should be a think of the past.
The rumormill put's it at 117-118mph traps stock because it is such a pig.

yes, it is a pig....
in a straight line that thing will be a monster, especially after upping that modest boostage...
but lets not forget about the whole turning problems that 'stangs tend to have.
put that sucker on the track and it could be a whole other story.

wow...if they sell it for a price in the low 40's, im dumping my evo and that will be sitting in my garage. Has anyone else noticed that HP is increasing in every single car segment? You can get accords/camrys/altimas with 260+hp....Civics and other small cars with 200+hp...and then these muscle cars with 400+hp. It's definitly a good time to be purchasing powerful cars.

With the Shelby name / collector factor and 500hp, I can see why this car will fetch well over $50,000 with dealer mark-ups.
The MSRP will probably be 43-45k, and dealers will ask anywhere from 5-15k over sticker.
And people will pay it.
