Yes the Supra was over-engineered, and I'm still amazed how the Toyota bean counters could allow a car like the Supra get into production.
Comparing the Supra to a 3000GT VR4 isn't really fair.
I believe the Supra to be a better car.
I don't think it was 1000rwhp on the stock block, but 958rwhp.
Nonetheless very very impressive.
I still think the C5 Z06 to be a better performance value then a Supra though.

Maybe you know something that we don't because most of have no problem maintaining the car.

Have you driven a 3000 GT VR4? they are bad a s s cars, they come fully equipped and cost half of a Supra. Why would you want a used car that cost that much?
Stock Supras run high to low 14s, it takes a lot of money to make them fast. A stock Z06 run low 13's to mid 12's out from the box.

Chevy can't even figure out it's own electrical gremlins in the C5. Can you even safely get your car up in the air with out the aluminum pucks? From the factory the intake manifold seals leak. Has there even been an official fix for the column lock issue? Can you actually change your own oil without a lift? The whole magna ride system is a disaster waiting to happen. Also may I take a moment to say sorry for anyone foolish enough to ever buy a transition year Corvette?
I have worked on many, sorry if my opinion is strong on this subject but you have to admit that it is quite a specialized car and is impractical for many. Granted the same could be said for the Evolution but on a lesser scale than America's performance icon. I would say that 7/10ths of the income of the shop I worked at came in from trouble shooting these vehicles.
Basically what I'm getting at is that without a pretty extensively equipped personal shop or local specialist, many Corvette owners would find it difficult to own their vehicles. Then again if you have the change to purchase a C5 or C6, the maintenance fees are probably of no concern.
Merely letting a fellow Evolution owner know what he may be getting into from personal experience working on the Corvette for a year straight.
With all of this being said I do enjoy a drive in a c5, but that's where my rational mind takes control and reminds me of what comes along with owning one.
edit: forgot a question mark

If I had any issues, I would certainly bring it up but attempting to ridicule a car for maintainability when there isn't much to complain about is reaching, imo. I am merely a shadetree mechanic but I funny it pretty comical that some one would say vettes are horrible to maintain, when if, it really isn't.

We used to have people come in for random traction control failure on a weekly basis.

No car is perfect and I would be the first to admit that the Evo is a high maintenance vehicle. Again, my point in all of this is that going from an Evolution to a Corvette will be a different world as far as troubleshooting and maintenance.

I can honestly say that I am more than happy for you that you haven't experienced any issues with your Corvette, as your case is exceptional. I applaud you for your bravery in being a shadetree mechanic and owning this vehicle. Then again maybe my time at a Corvette troubleshooting specialty shop left me with a bit of a jaded opinion. Guess you can only see the same issues over and over before coming to a conclusion as a mechanic...
