Man, I'm out on 5 of these cars:

Cobalt SS- Way better than the Jbody cars, good performance, awesome linear power delivery for a FWD, but I despise the styling.

Mustang GT- Heavy, live axle, sub-par hardware. If it wasn't for RWD and the fact it is a very modifiable platform, I'd put this car below that crappy Scion.

350Z- Pwned by Carlos Ghosn turning Nissan into a platform sharing profiteer, complete with inferior paint finishes that are full of orange peel, and the gutless also-ran VQ engine is hard to make power with NA (Here's to hope that the new HR engine is a lot better!). At least it drives the proper wheels.

Scion tC TRD- Gimme a break! TRD turd for the lose! Super cheap interior and hardware, Camry engine. This car is the worst of all on this list.

Volkswagen GTI- German engineering gremlins, crazy heavy curb weight for a FWD car, expensive parts.

I was looking at Z's and Eclipse's when I stumbled on to the Evo. I had 3 six ft individuals to consider in the passenger room department.

Even though I liked it, The Z gave me clusterphobia (sp?) and it was a 2 seater.
The Sub's back seats weren't big enough
Neither were the Eclipse's

I don't think that I would have purchased any of those - I think I would have ended up with an Xterra or something had I not happened across the Evo.

When I did research on the newly arrived Evo's, it was all over. It wasn't a Poser, I probably am when I drive it but the car was the real thing.

The talk about the interior always cracks me up... All of them are PLASTIC! (Z's Sub's etc...)

I especially like the Evo's for 3 reasons:

1. Comparatively, it's pretty roomy for a sports sedan

2. The seating position reminds me a little of a minature Muscle Car (like an late 60's Chevelle or a Barracuda)

3. It's not pretentious

Cars that underperform, but are dolled up to look like somthing they aren't, are what's embarrassing to me. Flash Gordon cockpits are fine for those that want them, but I'm not fooled.

(and if anybody brings up the wing, either slap yourself or pay someone to do it, cause you need one. But I like it with or without anyway

probably more than 2 cents, but there it is.

Buy a IX + $1300 = 80+/- whp gain (330+/- with stage 1 - 250whp stock)
Buy a 350z + $1300 = 15+/- whp gain

In all seriousness though, I like the 350's a lot... didn't get one because 2 of my friends own them already.

Don't get me wrong, the 350Z is a very nice car, I just think you get more out of your purchase when you buy an EVO. AWD, room for 5 adults, unlimited aftermarket performance options at a cheap prices, awesome handling, and awesome breaking.

Just comparing an EVO IX RS to a 350Z, well then I can understand their selection of the 350Z, the RS has no power options, no radio, no ABS (still stops great), and no spoiler. So yes the RS while great, I can still see why they would pick the 350Z. But overall, in my opinion, I just see the EVO (all models included) as a better buy.
And you put the WRX on your "didn't make the cut" list because??

WRX has way smaller back seat room, even the wagon.
WRX has over 60HP less.

Those would be my guesses.

A stock WRX has 60 hp less than the Civic and Cobalt and a smaller back seat than a Solstice??

Is the weather nice on your planet?

I was just pointing out that he had several FWD cars with lower horsepower on his list of "the" 12 cars and put the WRX on the loser list.

The WRX is better than a bunch of the cars on the list he made.....

I see what you are saying now. I only read his bottom quote, and didn't see his original post. Sorry for the misunderstanding. The WRX definitely made my cut!

I wasn't contesting that the WRX was better than the EVO RS.

The EVO is definately faster and the back seat has more room.

I almost bought an EVO 9, but the WRX seemed like a friendlier daily driver (and was $10k cheaper...).

I had an 02 WRX wagon and friggin' loved it. It accomodated our 105 lb yellow lab a lot better than the Evo. He's mode of transportation to the vet is now the wife's CR-V. Had my WRX been an EJ255 or EJ257 instead of a 2 liter car, it would've been much harder to part with. The old US EJ205s are just a little too brittle for my tastes.

according to this test the Evo has more performance than the Z, just that the Z is more well rounded.

are u here to try to get a rise out of everybody? the way u talk certainly imply that IMHO.

I've written this before, but I used to own a Z. Sold it and now I have an evo. I've taken both to the track.

The Z is a sexier looking car. The Evo is an econo box with a flying wing. We think the Evo is sexy b/c we're into cars but I can guarantee that 90% of the ppl living at the Playboy mansion would pick the Z over the EVO any day.

An average driver can go a hell of a lot faster in Evo than a Z on the track. On the freeway the evos faster b/c it has so much better visibility. The blind spots on the Z are ridiculous.

After the blind spots, the thing I hated most about the Z was the VDC (vehicle dynamic control). You can't shut the whole thing off even though theres a button. If you shut it off via the button, it would turn partially back on (braking part of it) the first time you hit the brake pedal. The only way to shut it off is by pulling the ABS fuse.

Plus the Z is a PIA to mod/tune.

Anyone that goes to the track knows who the fastest daily drivers out there are always the AWD turbos.

oh cry me a river. comments like that only offend fan boys of the evo who think the evo is god. OMG, someone actually placed a car ahead of the evo! thats when you start to hear excuses ie. 'performance over a pretty dash'. then what is a Ferrari? performance AND, yes i said AND a pretty dash. my comments and perhaps even this one offends fan boys. most people in this thread actually do have a good head on their shoulder which is why ive stuck around this board since 2002.

theres no doubt the evo has more performance than the Z. but people seem to lose track of the fact that their income doesnt come from thier evo. so performance isnt everything.

I've owned a Evo before my Z and it was the biggest POS I've ever onwed. Plus Mitsu Service dept was a PIA to work with. I'm much more happier with my Z over my Evo anyday. But it comes down to what your needs/wants are. Personally I would now buy the STi Limited over both if I could.

as far as speed goes u can get nos, utec, exhaust, and drs and run 11's on a 350 with a good driver.

stock for stock though the evo is faster and more practical with the 4 doors. u cant argue that.

i can see why they chose the 350 as well as number one. the z is sexy as hell but the lancer is sexy in its own right. its boxier but there is a certain mystique that it has. the legendary 4g63 engine and the rally championships. you can easily fall in love with either one.

ahh screw it just buy both.
