I know of an 02 6MT with alot oem CSL goodies and some pretty nice go-fast gear available down here in the Mid Atlantic for about $25k. 70 some thousand miles, owned by one family, REALLY well taken care of. This particular car is my absolute favorite of all time.

i've had both... and trust me, you want a porsche.

when you're driving your porsche, you'll never wonder what it would be like to own an m3.

when you're driving your m3, you'll ALWAYS wonder what it would be like to own a porsche.

Don't get the 996, it is the ugliest and the most depreciated modern 911s made. Compared to a 911(964) or a 911(993) the 911(996) is perhaps the most depreciated proportionally. I am not trying to be a hater, I had a 911(964) before and I myself look at those cars before and drove a 2002 model which was a much more improved version.

I would suggest the M-3 hands down. One of the main complaints about the 996 was the quality of the interior, too many plastics and too much rattling.

Those cars are holding such low value for that same reason. As far is their water cooler engine, that is another thing it was critizised however the car was not that slow after all.

My brother has a 03 M3 and I drove his, at least I can say I drove both cars you are trying to buy. Please, I am not trying to discourage you from buying the Porsche, it is not a bad car bad it is indeed the black sheep of the last two decades on the 911 trim.

Grab a couple of car magazines before you buy the Porsche: Porsche world and Excellence.

I would rather get a 993 instead. You might geta older car but it has too many main selling factors above the 996:

Sounds
Looks
Resale value

I honestly think that the 993s are the nicest 911 Porsche ever made along with the newest 997s. You might be a hair slower with a 993 but you gain that back on looks and sounds and a real classic Porsche interior (basicly unchaged since the early 70's)

Just my .2c

1999 911s are not good P cars DO NOT BUY! I think you should look into e36 m3, 964, S2000, Evo 8, the E46 is a great car, but buying the first model years of vehicles is definitely a risky thing. I am guessing you wanna look like a baller so get something a little more rare. idk.

70K is still not enough for either of those two cars (BMW or Porsche). I say get a speed3 and have some fun.

The 99-01 996 IMO are not worth it unless you plan on turning it into a race car. The displacement increase from 02+ makes a really big difference in the car.

Umm, check your facts. My 2003.5 HAS HAD the bearing recall. I've got the BMW recall campaign sticker on the door jamb and the service history to prove it. Regardless, the bearing recall is a non-issue. Even with a S/C putting down at least 360whp I could almost weld the hood shut for as often as I need to open it. Regular maintenance is all it needs.

I agree. Any used 911, or Porsche for that matter, is not a poor man's Porsche. BTDT.

I'd find a really clean E36 M3 and throw a twin screw S/C or a turbo on it and have some fun.
