Opinions on this Volvo S60R? The good & the bad of Volvos needed plz...
Never had really looked at Volvos until I had test drove the Subie Legacy GT the other month. Then started eying other suitable competitors, and found this model! Let me say, boy has Volvo grown on me! And just spotted this today...

Not seriously considering it right now due to other income restrictions, but what do think about Volvo quality? maybe compared to the LGT or other comparable models not mentioned.
...and in conjunction to that, any idea if they'd be easy to work on? Heard that the boxer-style LGT motors are a pain just to change the plugs. Any word on this Haldex AWD system? Is that good?
Thx

i thought about a S60R too.. but i was still young so didnt want a volvo yet...
i think its reliable.. a friend of mine.. his mom got a 850 with 200k miles still running strong... and volvos r safe (in an accident).... but havent seen many volvo tuners out there.... and for that price... now i'd prefer the bmw 335i.... my .02

IIRC the S60R is in the $38K range & supposedly runs a mid 13 but i've only seen that happen in Sweden. Volvos are stone reliable & amazingly even tho owned by Ford, they share no Ford parts on the Volvo. the BMW 335i is closer to $50k. fun car but very difficult to tune/modify. u have to run a constant 13.8volts to even read the BMW ECU or u will fry it!!!!
as far as the S60R, u can make 500whp easily on PUMPGAS with less than $4k in parts/tuning if u search the web...

If $4k can buy me a Civic (1.6L mind u) and boost parts for upwards of 400+, I'm sure the Volvo can manage. I did a quick look though at some aftermarket parts... They are expensive!!! But this car would be the un-modded car in the garage. Buying it "fully-Pimped" per the factory so I don't have to molest it. It'll be ready to burn most comparable cars on the road. LOL

Only 1 person has thrown a 35r on one yet; i believe they had a hard time tuning it. That's what i would want to do...
I also remember a lot of those motors failing with basic bolt-ons.

^No ****... Sweet! Like I tried to get across, this car would untouched by modding hands. Maybe basic tint and maybe a high-flow OE designed air filter...that's it.

It's a poor man's S4 and isn't bad at all. Gives up a little in performance to the EVO, but smokes it in so many other ways.
I have not looked recently, but when I did last year, there weren't any in that range. Though, I expect the price will drop with the new R36 coming out.
To the OP - S60 is a nice car, but don't buy it wanting to mod it. The are better choices if that's what you want to do.
