Luxury car for under 20k with good EPA?

as title states...good EPA meaning atleast 20+mpg STREET. The car is for my mom so no racing or craziness. It's just time for a new car and all she has her focus on is EPA and comfort..she was looking into a Rav4 and Kia sportage but i told her the kia is trash, but the rav4 is def an option...then my stepdad said how about a luxury car under 20k with good epa ie: lexus..

all i can really think of is..

the IS300 or a 02-04 ES300, along with a few newer maximas and bmw 335i(older model) but i dont like bmw so i dont want to see her driving a bmw everyday. any suggestions...i was thinking the s2k or g35 coupe as well but the g35 gets crappy mileage and the s2k is manual only

A used lexus or BMW would be a good idea. Alternatively try a new hyundai, you get a very nice car for not a lot of money.

Used Lexus's are still expensive. My friends mom picked up a 2003 (in 2005) ES 330 for 28k or so. Look for a used LS430. They are damn sexy! Not sure on the price though. Also a used Mercedes is fairly cheap and used Audi's, but they aren't known for reliablity unless they were maintined properly.

used Audi a6 hands down....great interior, and pretty spiffy lookin

if not an A6 then look around for a used VW phaeton. sometimes the pop up for around 20-25k....besides the car is huge, safe, uber-luxurious, and gets like 23 mpg W/ a V8....trust me, I own one

My gf and I got an is300 for like 11.7k and it's pretty nice. It gots decent power, queit, decent interior, looks nice, hids, etc... I don't think i'd get a used bmw out of warranty. You can find a nice is300 for like 15k and have like 5k for mods, but dont know what kind of mods your mom wants?

Oh and a honda fit lol I think they are actually pretty cool.

Hyundai is a pretty good idea....they have come a LONG way. What about a 1-2 year old Maxima or Altima?

None of the VQ powered cars get great mileage. 20 is probably par for the G35, Altima, Maxima, etc. And all the VQ cars require premium, at least they did last I shopped them a couple years ago. Somewhat defeats good gas mileage if you have to pay 30 cents/gallon more.

As mentioned above, the Camry or the Accord would be great choices. I think you'd be able to get an '05 or '06 around $20k. If the appearance of luxury is more important to your mom, a slightly older Lexus GS300 or Acura TL might fit the bill.

A BMW 3-series gets great MPG. An e46 325i or 328i can be purchased for way less than 20k. I know you said you don't like them but the 3-series has won so many car awards it's not even funny. Every car manufacturer building a luxuray sedan compares their own car to the 3-series. It is the benchmark and standard that all the previously mentioned cars are compared to. Audi I would worry about reliability and Lexus is good but they are FWD (except IS&GS).
