They also had factory supported mods, something seriously lacking from the japanese manufacturers who are just now trying to remedy the situation (look at Subaru with the SPT line).
Ah,
No the japanese know they dont have to hold the hand of its owner's to mod it. Whats the point of offering factory performance parts with prices through the roof when aftermarket parts are better and cheaper.

I think i have seen 3 chevy cobalt-ss's on the road since they came out, and 2 had girls driving.

The japanese manufacturers are trying to do just what chevy did so they are realizing that they do indeed need to hold the owner's hand. How many stories have you read on here (or on NASIOC) that involve voided warranties? Chevy did a hell of a thing by allowing people to buy mods through them, have mods installed by them, and keep their warranty. My brother in-law works at a chevy dealership and the SS supercharged cobalts are not something to just dismiss. I bet you Mitsubishi wishes they made a car like that (ie. one that appeals to young people).

i can understand it. mazdaspeed6 is a better daily driver, interior is superior to evo without a doubt and insurance is cheaper. r32, same deal AND u get European build quality and engineering.

I worked for chevy for nearly 3 years and when they came out i did a bunch of "GM performance" stages for them much like the mopars..

for 1700 bucks you get a 2.8 pulley or something like that... like 440 injectors a gm performance intake and a pcm re-flash.. one guys with headers and a catback made 268whp from this... it was a blast to drive and was the model with recaros and a lsd. it would beat my stockish evo from a 40+roll

I see ur point. But i highly doubt mistu is looking at , or trying to copy anything Chevy does. I would think its the other way around. U dont think chevy is chomping at the bit to make a car like the EVO, with a cult following?

The cobalts now come with a turbo. Should be a lot of bang for the buck.

Exactly, people need to stop it with this "evo owns all" mentality, there are other cars out there that are just as capable and *gasp* better in other respects.

Chevy already has cult cars and I doubt it feels the need to compete with the evo. Ask 10 people what car they think is better or more iconic, the evo or the corvette and you'll see why I don't think Mitsubishi is even considered equal to GM in their eyes. Alternatively, use the Camaro as a comparison.

True sir,

But u cant go bringing in a car thats been made for how many years, 40-50? Of course it has a cult following with that long production time. What do u think the evo would be like if it was made for 40-50 years? Im sure a EVO XXVII would roast a C6 corvette.

True but iconic is iconic. The evo is no new guy on the block, it's been around for 15 years (same as the WRX) but plenty of people A. have never heard of it and B. assume it's a riced out lancer when they do see it/hear about it. The cobalt is a damn fine car. Is it better than the evo? I wouldn't go that far (although it certainly is cheaper) but it's not a POS as some people imply. Mazda has had a lot of successes lately, case in point, the mazdaspeed3. I have yet to read a bad review of that car and it seems to make everyone's top 10 list.

While the evo is a great car, it's not for everything and it flat out sucks in some respects. Don't be blinded by such fanboy fanaticism, there was life before the evo.
They are for this grown up!

Even though that may seem unbelievable to many of you. He makes a pretty damn good point, I personally have experienced this. A female passenger of mine, btw I was driving an accord, points at an evo and says the following: " LOL look at that piece of **** lancer with a wing." She honestly had no idea what an evo was. But if that was a corvette or camaro there would be no mistaken identity. My point being that if one were to deviate away from our community, one would see that Evos arent as widely known/appreciated.
