The thing I wonder about is why on gods green earth would anyone shell out $30-35,000 for a Mazdaspeed6 (14.8 1/4 mile) or even worse a MKV R32!?!?! (0-60 in 6.4 SECONDS?!) What in the hell is possessing these people to buy a performance car and take SUCH a hit on the performance part for some cow seats and navi?

R32's are nice cars. They didn't make that many of them so they have actually held their value really well. If you look at used R32's the prices are still pretty high. The R32's have the paddle shift that is pretty nice.

People seem to miss the whole car enthusiast end of things and their point of views into loving a specific model.
My example of getting out of a Evo:
I had a '06 EVO SE. Driving along a very cold and rainy night doing 25mph a deer jumps out and do what must would do try and swerve, just instinct. The car gets a little loose, I countersteer and have it just about straight again when I hit a tree only 3 1/2 feet off the edge of the road on the passenger front corner. I only hit this tree at maybe 15-20mph and it drove the motor into the firewall, collapsing the dash and steering column badly onto my legs hurting my left leg pretty bad. When I saw the car the next day after getting out of the hospital I almost wanted to throwup at how horrible the car held up. The entire front subframe twisted that bad it popped the passenger door out of its seat and bent the hinges and the motor was sitting into the firewall. At that point I swore off a Evo as a replacement car, since the evo was obviously totalled, for a daily driver because I wouldn't want to see my wife getting into a accident with it. As a comparison, I got into almost the same accident in the passenger seat of a friends MKIV GTi hitting a tree avoiding a deer at almost the same speed. He got his car back in a week and a half from the body shop with zero, yes zero damage to the front subframe let alone pushing the motor into the firewall. That is why I now drive a '04 R32 and am looking to build a drag car to go fast. My point is not everyone, when they go to buy a car, looks at dollar vs. hp ratio on there next purchase. I absolutely loved my Evo'd and it kills me to not have one again but you can't always control what happens on the road and my life is more valuable. Be safe everyone....

^Agreed. The Evo has the great capability of hauling ***, but safety is not high on the list. Volvos and Saabs make some of the best and safest cars, but we all have choices, and any of us on this board could have gotten a 9-3 or some type of safe/Swedemobile. One can buy a motorcycle. The haul ***, but be prepared to get major road rash/lost limbs/death if you fall or get into an accident. It sounds cliche, but it is all about choices.

I've owned an MKIV R32 and an Evo IX. Yes, the evo was a far superior performer, but the R32 had some good points. For one it had a much more useable powerband, albeit less power overall. Also, it is a more mature looking car, and the interior was nicer. Ultimately, I prefered the evo, but I still like the VW. What I really don't like are people that take their cars so seriously they talk trash on others for owning a "rival" sport oriented vehicle. Makes no sense.
