EVO X vs. Camaro, Challenger, STi... and whatever else thats coming out

I was wondering how many of you plan to leave your EVO roots because youre not that interested in the EVO X... maybe for an 08/09 Camaro, Hemi Challenger... 08 STi... any of those options intriguing? Why or why not or are you just planning on going with the EVO X?

The Camaro is supposed to come in with 400+hp, IRS and 50/50 weight distribution for under $30k.

How can anyone NOT consider it?

I don't think it's going to be out for at least another year. Looks like it's going to be a great car though.

Actually I left my Camaro roots (1969 and 1996) to get my Evo's .
But you got to look at the new Camaro for a preformance car in the $30-40k range .
So yeah i say 5gen Camaro .

I have faith in Mitsubishi. I will be a fan for a long time. I have experienced too many negative things with other car companies to trust them just yet.

Things have a way of balancing themselves out, if not this coming year then soon after. Mitsu is no different than any other car manufacturer and they will follow the demand. I can be patient.

It will also weigh about 4000lbs.

If an American auto maker wants to get my attention they will make an light, nimble AWD rally beater. Maybe a GM with the direct injection motor out of the Solstice? Make it mid engine and it would be really interesting.

As it stands I am most interested in the new Ralliart.

I don't think so.

The 4-door Pontiac G8 is 3995lbs and the Camaro uses a shortened version of the same platform.

Poctiac G8 GT:

Length - 196.1
Width - 74.8
Height - 57.7
Wheelbase 114.7

2009 Camaro concept

Length - 186.2
Width - 79.6
Height - 53.0
Wheelbase - 110.5

The production car will be even smaller as mentioned here:
Don’t Worry, It’ll Shrink

The only real news from our brief joy ride was confirmation that the production Camaros will be smaller than the concepts in pretty much every dimension, which would make them comparable to their Blue Oval–branded nemesis. The 2009 Camaro will be shorter, narrower, and shod with smaller wheels. Its windshield will grow to provide actual wind shielding for six-footers, and the interior will shrink to something more usual for a two-plus-two muscle car. We were assured, however, that the changes won’t significantly alter the Camaro’s flawless proportions, something we’re inclined to believe knowing that since late 2005—before either Camaro concept saw the light of day—members of the Camaro’s original design team have been working in Australia on the Zeta-platform rear-drive underpinnings, ensuring that the production version stays true to the vision.
About the same size as a Mustang means the curb weight will likely come in around 3600-3700lbs. The Mustang is 3500lbs, but it doesn't have IRS.

Originally, I was looking at getting the challenger but since i was looking for a good DD that can handle the "fun" winters we have up here in canada the evo caught my attention. Plus the base price of 39k for the challenger...and only an auto tranny for the 2008 models killed it for me

The Mustang GT weighs 3356. IRS is no excuse for the Camaro to add 300 pounds.

The $39k SRT8 will actually be the top-of-the-line model. They'll have a ~370hp+ R/T model coming out later....probably $30-$32k.

You looked up the V6 model. The Mustang GT is 3483lbs: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2005/...pecifications/

well the srt was the only one i was interested in (both in engine and timeframe) so the r/t prices dont matter to me.....and which engine is firing out the 370hp? unless they tweaked the 5.7 to put out 25 more hp they dont have a 370hp engine

and since the srt8 is the only one being released atm that would be the base price

Totally different type of cars. I think the new Camaro and Challenger will be simply awesome cars, but I do not believe a lot of people looking to pick up one of those cars will even be thinking about a EVO or even a STI or 135i. Just different strokes for different folks.

I know this may be seen as blasphemy...but between the X and the other cars listed, I would take the new Challenger in a heartbeat.

I have no plans of getting rid of my IX, and don't mean to put down the X, but I've wanted a Challenger for as long as I can remember. And while nothing will beat the original 1970 model, I'll take what I can get.
