Jim i also considered Subaru as they are real reliable if u don't "tinker" with them. it would be tough not to wanna mod it though. i did find a prime example:
i didn't go get it bcuz it has 101k miles on it
i have looked at the Saab equivalent as well:
also a buddy of mine is selling a Volvo 850 T5-R which i may just get for now. it's not AWD but it is a rare find as not to many ppl want to sell them:

instead we got the 2003 RS6 for 1 year only which is y i thought it would be a nice sleeper since looks like a regular A6 w/different badging. educated car guys would know what it is but the average person would not except for when merging onto freeways & that twin turbo V8 opens up.
& for those that claim Audi is expensive to maintain, i drive an EVO, a Land Rover, AND a Mercedes. i assure you NONE of those cars are cheap to maintain. my EVO runs racegas only ($8/gal), the land rover needs filling once a week (22gallon tank of 91gas) + eats brakes every 10k miles ($1300 a pop), & the Merc oil changes cost $100 every time as it uses 8 quarts of oil...

S60R or V70R...fast wagon
Legacy GT SpecB and mod it
Older T5 Volvo and mod it
Modded Saab Viggen
Mazdaspeed6
Those are my suggestions. I would steer clear of Audi. Great car, just known to have problems come up all the time.

The only thing about Audi that is "garbage" is that our 2003 20k TT's interior looks basically just like that '03 RS6's interior for more than half the cost... Basically... In the sense that the Evo and Lancer interiors look so similar.
Other than that, I love our TT, and have loved every other Audi I've been in, including test driving S4s, A4s, and A3s when I was looking for my new car... Course we haven't had the TT nor have I known anyone to have one long enough to have any issues.
And Mitchubishi: The RS4 is farther from sleeper than the RS6 above... but, I'd definitely still consider a car that looks pretty much just like an A4 to the untrained eye as a sleeper.

why do you need 4 cars. the benz has got to pull pretty well with the 5.5 litre, no?
