New Toyota Celica (STI eng) in the works?

Interesting, especially considering the smaller size of the celica vs. the STI.

It's just rumors right now, who knows if it will even materialize and in what form.

Why build it?

The celica died, so the Matrix can be pimped in sales. Now, the Scion cars took over the spot for both of them.

Is it another supra in disguise?

"The next generation Toyota Celica will be available in two versions, a Celica GT and Celica GT-4. The GT should be powered by the 2.0 liter boxer and will be rear-wheel-drive while the GT-4 receives the 300 hp 2.0 liter boxer from the Impreza Sti with Subaru's four-wheel-drive (including in-wheel electric motors for added power on the wheels). Further rumours are that Toyota may return to WRC with the new Celica."

Suby is going to provide a motor in their sport backyard to another potential rival.

It like saying ford and cosworth would make two different engines against each other in Indy.

1. It reduced a ****load of R&D
2. Toyota acquired 9% of subaru, its been done before (GM+Subaru = Saab's version of the WRX)
3. Instead of decreasing its own Impreza sales, this could work in Subaru's advatange as it seems everything under a Toyota badge turns gold. It will attract a whole new market. Every one of this Celica GT-Four sold will be cash in Subaru's pockets

why not build it? they have no sports cars out right now, and people are waiting for an AE86,supra, and celica rebuild.
i would highly consider buying a rwd sport car from toyota with some power to it.

Its only right since there is a hydia coupe rwd v6 300hp and turbo 2.0 200hp and mitsubishi looking at turboing the concept ra (possible eclipse) so why not come with RWD and AWD celica. But lets see what happens because this is toyota. Moving foward, or as i say a inch at a time.

There is no way they will make the car to look that crazy. If there is snow on the ground your not going nowhere.

This would kick ***! I just bought a 94 Celica GT today, couldnt pass it up for $3k. I will say that for a 14 year old car, the thing handles damn nice. Great steering and cornering. Not too fast really but I am looking to add an exhaust and maybe even an MR2 engine swap. Only weighs 2400 lbs too! I forgot how nice it was to drive a car that didnt weight 3500+ lbs, cars are getting way to heavy these days

would be fun to see a new toyo rally car. the days of the 195 and 205 gt4 were good days, when carlos sainz drove for toyota, collin mcrae drove for subaru and makkinen drove the evo's.
