great ideas guys. I'm liking the built 2G dsm idea, its just so hard to find one without a body kit. heh.
rx7 with a ls1 swap wets my panties, but I think it would put me over for a clean FD shell, swap kit and motor. maybe not?
Vettes are out. I've had a C6 z51 and couldn't see taking a step back into a c5, even if its just for a fun car.
mr2 turbo is out for the same reason... had a 93, loved it, hated working on it.
3kGT are definitely out, too obscure to have a decent after market without spending a ton. reliability also comes into play.
I don't know much about 240 swaps.. I'll look into that today.

buick grand national / Regal but thats not 90's or newer.
others mentioned above seem pretty fun to do. ls1 rx7, turbo civic, sr20 nissan.
personally i would just wait for the gtr, its arrival isn't that far off and you can save up money for potential mods.

7mgte Supra. You could build a serious beast for way under $20k and you could pick one up for next to dirt. I think the years were 87-92 it just makes it over your newer than 90 mark.

I was going to say Miatas can be fun as well as a used Mini Cooper S. I was this close {} to getting one of those, but I needed a little more DD in a car so I went with the Mazda 3.
I'd take and run a Mini any day.

I would suggest a E36 M3 just for the fact that you can slide that thing around (not on public roads of course). When you get the GTR, you won't have the luxury. You do have to take some time finding one in good condition that isn't overpriced. With some upgrades you could have a blast with that car.
