S60R vs Evo
Has anyone compared the Volvo S60R to the Evo? Test Drive comparisons?

I'm just wondering if any one has test driven one and what they thought. I've seen all the specs, and the cars are kinda similar on paper, Big Brembos AWD Turbo, etc. Less than S4s and M3s..

Just finished wathicng Bobby Rahal and Tommy Kendall run the S60R around Willow Srpings and they weren't blown away but impressed with car. plus all the electronic LSDs and active 4C system made it seam more like the JDM Evo's with all their electronic tom foolery...

My buddy has an EVO and works for Volvo and has driven a v70R. He like the R but it is much heavier and not as knife edged when it comes to handling. The R is much faster though above 90mph.

The AWD in the S60R is an extremely advanced system called Haldex. The system is extremely effective but weights a lot. Most test drives determined that while it did a great job of keeping the car going in the intended direction, the electronic controlled system intervened too much for any "real fun".
My sense is that like the upcoming G35 AWD, it's mainly intended for safety, stability instead of all out performance. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

The S60R isn't as honed for performance as the Evo, but for a nice mix and match of luxury and performance, it looks like a better deal thean the S4s and M3s out there. The active suspension siwtching between comfort/sport/advanced looked well done from the comments by the test drivers on TV. Plus the optional wagon body V70R also made it look like a great option as a very versatile and still very fun car.

Cool. that's what I was wondering about, some first hand driving experience and thoughts. Lapping the Willow Springs, they were pretty zippy, said they had just a hit of power understeer.... sounded familiar..

for just an everyday street car that won't be drag raced, modified or taken to the road course (at least not to the road course by anyone decent) the VOLVO seems like a fantastic car. MSRP without NAV is about $38.5k. It has the 3 different suspension settings, leather, etc........ but... for some reason the local dealer here has had 1 black one and it has not budged in 3-4 weeks now.
Most Evo 8 drivers are more spirited, so a 400lb lighter, quicker, better handling car is more desireable to us.
