engine failure like no other for no reason and the engines are very weak you cant even put a bigger turbo or try to go more than 15 psi
thats user failure...been that is was an inexpensive car to start, a lot of people that didnt know crap about turbo cars, let alone tuning, got a hold of this cars, which werent meant to be turbod from the beginning and upped the boost to, lets say evo levels, and you know the ending.

this cars were extremely good and reliable. their strong hold was their suspension and lightweight. interior quality was better than our evos and also extremely inexpensive to maintain. at one point there were lots of parts available for upgrades, maybe not so many now that the MS3 our out. if you decide to get one, just check the normal stuff, but specially check for LSD noises as previously stated here, Mazda did went on the cheap side and used a cheap LSD on the MSPs.

How do I know, I owned one...

PS-never blew my engine, never ended with a grinding 3rd gear, never blew the LSD, driven daily at 19psi, did 275whp on a 2,600lbs car, enough to beat lots of evos, stis (in 2004 remember not to many 400whp evos )

I have buddies with Rx7's and Rx8's that beat the hell out of them daily and they seem to hold up pretty well.

Don't buy those cars right now. Just save up for an evo. I know you must be anxious to get out there and drive hard, but the wait will be worth it!

Get the civic. Proven reliability and fuel economy which is what you want in a DD. Not difficult to mod either. You're thinking into this too much.

@pirana: how much did you invest in that car to make it run that safely?

Wondering if it makes financial sense to try that or buy a used evo.

Better not let the Si out of your sight. It will definitely be stolen. I had a black 2000 Si with a 57 trim and I absolutely loved that car...guess what happened to it...

i got a 2000 si now and its a pretty solid car. over 4 yaers with it and not a single problem. wish it was faster but it makes a great dd. one thing to consider though they are stolen a great deal. you really gotta park it in a garage and stuff.

MSPs and MS3's are both great cars, but you'll get more out of the MS3 IMO. There are some downsides to the MAZDASPEED3, tuning it can be a real pain in the *** and once you get past a certain number of mods the fuel pump will need upgrading, and that thing is not as cheap as a fuel pump for an EVO. If you're planning on making big power then think again, save it for the EVO. Otherwise it's a great DD, makes decent power, looks great, comfortable ride, and it should hold you over plenty while you wait on the EVO.
