There are a multitude of GVR4's on the VR4 forums for under 5K in excellent condition.

If you look closely, you'll see there is one in Lake Charles right now going for the astronomical price of "Free".
I paid "Free" for my GVR4. It was a birthday gift.

GVR4 can be a deadly fast car, I've seen a couple on youtube do 9s not sure how much money you would have to drop in them to pull that off though.
really cant go wrong with a 1g DSM, Ive seen Turbo AWD 1g DSMs sell for $800 bucks and all they need is a timing belt and a head job to be running again. Also the bottom end of a 1g DSM is tough!! it can take some major beatings.
(getting the car for so cheap leaves lots of money for parts, if you shop wisely and get some used parts here and there you could have a 10s car for under 5k)

You guys are crazy! ok get this straight, your not finding a vr-4 3000gt for 5K. I noticed only american, jdm cars plus an e36 have been mentioned.
OP did you know you can buy a BAD AZZ vr-6 corrado for 5K and under? They are bad *** little cars and they are fast! you can also buy a g60 supercharged corrado, 160 hp stock super easy to mod and they can be had for 1k-5k all day long. You can also find 1.8T mk4 gti's and jettas for that much.
And BY FAR the best car period for 5K would be a high mileage 2000-2002 B5 audi s4!!. twin-turbo 2.7 V-6 and AWD. Plus they are pure luxury. come with 250 hp stock and with a chip they put out like 350 TQ at like 2,500 RPM!!!! Just make sure that the timing belt has been done and your golden. I know everyone is going to say it will break and blah blah blah but that is all hear say and not from experience. They can be finicky but almost always its little BS like a $30 coil pack and little things here and there Just like any high mileage car. They have forged internals from the factory and are very strong engines.I have loads of experience working on and owning vw's and audis.
here you go, just think you can bargain so look at cars for like $6500

The reason no one mentions German cars is because we all know they are way more expensive to fix, mod and harder to find parts for then just about any Japanese or American vehicle.

^^ Here is a 1995 M3, going for $6,300.
But like everyone else says, stay away from them and get a cheap 4g63.
