If I'm not going to buy and evo... What should I buy??

Well, after being in the market for an 03-04 evo for the past couple of months, i've finally decided that an evo isn't what I'm going to buy. Right now just isn't the right time for me, and even though I want to get something that I'll really enjoy driving, I know that i need something that is cheaper on average. I'm 20 years old and am a full time student and I think what I need at the moment is something fuel efficient, quick, reliable. Oh and not to mention... it has to have a better standing with the insurance companies. I'm not saying that i want to pick up a Yaris or something. I still want something that is performance orientated. Maybe something with Awd like the evo. Perhaps it can have a turbo. It definitely has to be manual.

It kills me to let go of the idea of owning an evo. But when i think about it, I'd rather wait untill I can properly own an evo then buy one now, and not be able to mod and drive it like I would want to.

So any suggestions guys? What do you think I should look into??

Btw, my price range is between 10k - 12k.

If I were 20 years old and a full-time student, I'd look no further than a Honda Fit: reasonably quick, fantastic handling, reliable, very practical, and a lot of fun to toss around.

Trust me i am 19 and never thought i would own one and when the opurtunity came i jumped at it... you may never get another chance.... a car payment comes with any car and so does insurance and if you plan on selling the car you will buy in a few years to get a an evo that stuff is still there the insurance aint gonna be any cheaper it could go up if you wreck that other car and an evo will have alot more miles in the later years!....

Also my dad owns a dealership and we see people come in trying to trade there car they bought and they are buried F***ing deep like 4 grand upside down cause other dealers are ******!... you need to seriously think about it alot!

I now just bought a house and my evo payment is still the same but you can always sell the evo for what you bought it for.... ALWAYS cause everybody wants one!

and they are not that bad on gas.... 225 to a tank and 40 to fill.... and the looks you get are priceless.... wether it is the college girls or the total milfs driving escalades and the punks driving gay camaro's when they get next to you and they realize you would spank them!

If you bought any other car that is AWD and turbo insurance is going to be the exact same with 1/2 the THRILLS! Best decision of my entire life!

If you need more help convincing just let me know!

Fits are sick but they are mostly likely 10G's and you'll be buried when you wanna sell it and you'll be upside down in the evo then so on and so on!

Start out fresh and just pay the price for an evo and eventually it'l be paid off and you'll never look back!

Why are you saying this to me, and how is it relevant to the OP looking for a $10-12K car?

I am in your shoes. Had my evo since I was 19, and now 22 and full time student in college. I make the payments work and make sure I have enough money to enjoy college.

What about a 2003-2005 mk 4 gti 1.8t. I came form one of them and they are quick and actually a lot of room to transport stuff in going to and from school

You can easily find an 03 for under 12k. I sold a great 03 about 6 months ago for 12,500. Someone made a thread today becuase they got an 03 for 8,500...I wouldn't give up on the evo. Whatever else you get just won't compare.

Civic Si. Cheap car, cheap parts, cheap insurance. Quick enough to be enjoyable.

Props to you for realizing that the Evo is a rather silly car to own while a full-time student. The money is better spent elsewhere.

You have some good points, a car payment comes with every car. But it doesn't come with a car that I can buy with cash. And sure every car needs insurance. But not every car has insurance as expensive as an evo. And i'm pretty sure that my insurance as I get older will decrease. Considering, like you said, I don't get into any accidents or anything in that time. From what I hear, evo's are pricey to maintain. And to be honest, I don't even have enough time off from school to work the hours to make the money to maintain and own an evo. An evo is my dream car. And if i buy one i want to have fun modding it, and making it beautiful. I'd almost rather have patience, buy one later, and do it the right way when I'm financially stable enough. Also, i'm moving to Vancouver to go continue my program there in the fall. I'll be living close to campus and using the bus most often. I kind of feel like owning an evo would be such a waste. So i wouldn't be able to spend the money I would want to on it, I wouldn't be able to drive it as much as I would want to, and ontop of that, I would be paying out the **** to insure it.

Now if I buy something else. For one i can spend less. I have 10k cash to work with. So if I can find something at that or less, that would be awesome. I can own the car and not have to worry about monthly payments. Except for the insurance, which would be considerably cheaper than the insurance I would be paying for an evo. Which is pretty much my main concern. If it's something not quite as high strung as an evo, I won't have to spend quite as often for mechanical issues. Although, If i had an evo and took good care of it, I doubt this would be a real issue... I also wouldn't be upset that I can't buy parts for it. I know that if i had an evo, i wouldn't be able to resist buying parts for it and tuning it.

but ya on the other hand I obv. would really love an evo. My "heart" tells me to buy one. But my mind tells me that it's not the time yet. I hate being indecisive.

but ya... I wish I could be as optimistic as you are though. Must be easy having a family that owns a dealership.... and being well off enough to buy a house at 19. haha.

Id have to agree, imo a much better choice than the honda fit which looks like its mentally challenged younger brother.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'll take a look into them. I'm moving to Vancouver, BC next fall for school and there's going to be a winter season, as compared to the sunny florida i live in now. Because of this i'm really leaning toward something that is Awd. But Fwd isn't bad in the snow either... Thanks for the input.

I know I could find a really cheap evo. But an 03 evo for under 12 has over 100k miles on it. As much as I love the evo's and want one. I don't want to half *** buying one. You know? Also there just something about buying a car with over 60,000 miles that just makes me nervous. I feel like it's just not a good deal, no matter how great the car is.

what about a Yaris? j/k
I say get a reliable everyday beater that is cheap and fun and put away a little savings fund for downpayment/mods on your Evo when you get donw with school. You can still keep the beater to drive and keep the Evo in good shape once you get one, I have an old 4Runner that serves as my DD... its 4wd, manual, just not turbo but fun to drive off-road

Quick Reply: If I'm not going to buy and evo... What should I buy??
