Blonde --

I think owning one of the "new" Porsches has cured my desire to own another one... even a 996TT. For one thing, it just has too much in common with the Boxster looks and interior-wise. So even though it would be a massive upgrade for me in terms of performance (on paper at least) it just wouldn't feel (to me) like I got my money's worth. It was always my dream to own a Porsche... but well, I guess it's one of those "grass is always greener" things! Now I am planning to get an EVO &/or Z06 next year. The 993/911's though... I still wouldn't mind having one of those. But I'm not that rich! And still there'd be Porsche parts and maintenance... agh! My dealer quoted me $240 for my last oil change til I negotiated with them, for example.

Agree on the Miata... that would make a really low-cost fun car that's affordable to abuse!

My pops just traded a 993TT in for an SL55.

The 993TT was chipped and had exhaust. It was wicked quick.
It definitely felt heavier on the steering. Then again, it had leather interior, superior paint, and a very sweet exhaust note. Oh, and the car does not die at 100 mph, like our cars do, and it truly has top end power in any gear.

That being said, the EVO is a damn good deal @30k, it can easily keep paces with a normal 996, but with a 996TT? Hmm, doubtful, but it is hella expensive. My bottom line is that both are great at what they do. You can have fun in both if you have the money to play.. See Pesto360.

Not sure who would actually consider buying one of these vs the other, but having driven both extensively, I can tell you they are both excellent cars in their respective fields.

Porsche definately gets the nod look wise. The drivetrain is also excellent, and the tranny much nicer unit to drive overall.

Maintenance wise - yes the Porsche is more...it costs 4x as much and as such, parts and service are more expensive. It also uses ar more oil than an Evo, so $240 is not unreal IMHO...at least its not aircooled (the oil changes there are even more usually (talking dealer pricing now).

Both cars have cheap interiors...Porsche's seats are better though, and the porsche is a much more flexible car in terms of going track to street.....thats relatively subjective though according to who you talk to.

Given their compeititon, both are excellent buys...I think given our tendancy to look at performance over all else, you would happy with either one!
