is300 or something else?
today i was lookin for a car for my younger brother but i came across a 2001 is300 fully loaded 43k miles, for about 21,000.
I was originally thinking of getting a car for about 30 but it is coming out to be more than i wanted to spend a month, with my down payment. So i decided to look at stuff around 20-24 grand.
I personally like the is300 cause it it rwd, fully loaded, and has the toyota inline 6, 2JZ Too bad its only 215hp...but that can be changes
Any other suggestions for nice cars in that price range? I want a sports car but i would also like some luxury. I also considered the new accord coupe but its fwd and doesnt have all the options the is300 would has...
well feel free to offer any suggestions
thanks guys...

Well, I would go for the IS300 since it is a Toyota and has racing roots. JCTC - Toyota Altezza... The IS300 has very nice modifications and is a proven car. But the fact is, you are buying the car used. Buying a used Lexus especially an IS might have its disadvantages in that the previous owner might have abused to car severely. So take good care in looking into the maintenance of the car. Since you do live in Boston, where are you purchasing the car from? If you're interested an Evo, there was a man selling his Silver Evolution 8 in Newton for around 22K. It was in great condition.

Get an import!!!
I'd get him a SC300. It's still Rear wheal drive and I believe its under 20k to get a used one...plus I think they also have the 2J in em. Or heck just get him a Hachi Roku Dori Dori Drifto Domo Arigato Mister Robato AE86 Corolla GTS. I'd get a Toyota Rear Wheel fun box too...a supercharged 87-89 MR-2 with the 4AG power plant...you can put the 20valve on that bad boy. or get him a 90-95 MR-2 Turbo powered by the 3SGTE!!!!! And if you don't find any of these Toyotas....look for a Savanah (FC3S) RX7 or the Efini (FD3S) RX7....if you can't find an RX7 turbo either FC or FD then last resort would have to be the abundent supply of Nissan 240SX (RPS13 hatch 240SX 89-91) and put either the SR20 in there or heck the RB26.....enough choices ???

wow thanks for all the replies...
reason i am not lookin at the wrx or srt is that i am not a big fan of the looks of either car and i would prefer a little bit more luxury, so i am willing to sacrifice the performance to a point. Anyways the is300 has a 2JZ engine and can be easily modified, lots of aftermarket suppport.
I could go and get a used evo or the srt and be the fastest guys in town real quick but that isnt a priority right now.
I would love to get a G35 coupe, but its more than what i want to pay right now. I was at the dealership this weekend and they were tellin me about 35 grand for a 6 speed with the bose audio and stuff. A bit too much for now...
anyways i gotta think about this some more, but thanks for your advice guys...
btw...i have to say these forums are some of the best i have found. Even though i am not exactly lookin at an evo anymore, you guys are knowledgable and have great advice....
thanks again....

I personally love the IS300.....they look awesome, handle decent, sweet interior, lots of easy mods and TONS of cool Altezza upgrades you get get from Japan......
............the only thing was I thought that in 2001 you could only get automatic.....ugh! I don't think they came in manual until 2002. If you get the manual then that's a good choice but you'll have get a 2002 I believe.
Awesome cars.......I have a yellow Altezza in my GranTurismo3 garage as my RWD badass
.......too bad it's not real

21k, drop 10k in it, you got a 31k BEAST. REliable to boot, luxury touches, Lexus service and panache. Used Lexus are more reliable than hella new cars out there.
Bad things- it's avg speed stock, it's a ricers dream car, gauges are a love/hate thing
I love the SRT-4 too though, for 20k, it's a STEAL new.
Check out www.clublexus.com, www.seloc.net for more info on what u can do to an IS.
