Seized Motor in Friends Cobalt SS

Okay, so here is the story. A while back my friend cracked a piston in here Cobalt SS's motor (detonation). So I rebuilt it. It was running perfect toned the tune down so it was safe, and she drove it around for a while 5000-8000 miles no problem. Then she bought a truck and parked the Cobalt for about 6 months. The other day when she took it out it died at a stop light and would not start again so she had it towed to Chevy. They are saying that the bottom end seized up and they think it is because it "heated up". this doesn't make any sense to me. So my question is what would make the rod bearings seize up like this or what would cause them to heat up to the point of seizing? Thanks in advance for the help.

Oil starvation.

Was there oil in the car? Did she check that before she fired it up? Could have been a bad oil pump as well.

This is the only conclusion i can come to is possibly the oil pump failed as they said the oil level was good.

So how does the oil pump work in a chevy? Chain driven? shaft driven? They are gears, they dont freeze up unless something gets between them. I would have a look at the engine if you could, the crank wont seize and not turn, before it eats a bearing or two or 10. Something about the explaination of the problem doesn't sound rt. Why just rod bearings and not mains also? If it was out of oil I could almost swallow the explaination..But you said it had oil. Ive seen pump shafts twist like a pretzel before-- once again because it picked up a chunk of crap between the gears. Aside from not starting, which could be anything from a fuel pump to a spark plug--what else was it doing or sounding like?....This doesnt sound like they dont want to do anything except replace a motor for a heafty price.

Sounds like A. Crappy cheap parts used or reused
B. Bearing crush and measurements were not taken right
C. Poorly assembled
D. All of the above

New OEM oil pump, aftermarket pump, or reused original pump?
