I own a 95 Z28 that I bought new 10 years ago for $20,000. It has evolved into a track car, and I just finished putting a new engine with heads, cam, headers etc in the car. It has big brakes, suspension, and a 4 point roll bar.

Our 05 Evo is stock and my wife and I use it daily.

I think there's been a lot of progress in 10 years, no doubt about it, and the Evo is the new 'bang for the buck' leader. Stock to stock the 05 Evo is clearly faster then a 95 Z28.

If I was looking for a 'toy' track car now, I might consider the Evo, but I fear that it would be more expensive to modify then the Camaro and not as durable. The Z28 has been bullet proof - not sure about the Evo.

The Evo definitely has better brakes and handling, although with all the track days I've gone too the few Evo and STi guys that show up have mostly been hanging around in the pits with the hoods up and dyno sheets sitting on the engines - seems weiird...
