Just went through this circus act. The ref may still fail you even if you have the OEM IX cat. Not all the refs have the correct drawings from Mitsubishi and litigation will be required to fix it because these guys think they are god and don't listen to anybody. I was able to eventually pass using aftermarket cat: Walker part number - 82633. See my post #833 for the full story.

MItsubishi sent me to a tuner they knew, who happened to be my brothers tuner, to set it to factory. They wouldn't or couldn't do it 😑

I sold my first evo.. regretted it... and now this one. I have too many cars and found a track hooker to replace it, so it has to go, yep. It's a great car, but the new one will be easier to deal with in the long run.

Finally got everything ready to go to the state ref. I went with your recommended walker CAT. Everyone telling me here "you should be fine with 3" flanges" because they can't do 2.5 to line up piping or w/eAnyway hopefully the dudes cool. $2,500 later and Injen taking 5 months to ship finally ready.
now I just need a new clutch nad flywheel 🥲

I was digging through my storage unit yesterday. I found the OEM IX cat that I used for state inspections while I still had my Evo (along with a BNIB starter...go figure). As the Evo is long gone, I am going to put it up in the for sale section soon (or if someone in this thread still is looking, shoot me a message).

That would be the case I assume.
He came out asking me "what's your mid-pipe CARB number"
Passed functional, not visual.
On the comments he wrote:
"Mid-Pipe is not approved, will need to install a CARB approved component or return to factory configurations"
