NOVA Tour to Cooter's & 211 Labor Day (9/1)

NOVA Tour to Cooter's & 211 Labor Day

This will be an informal tour of NOVA, ending up at Cooter's on 211, and then some fun runs up and down the mountain. I have already posted this on the Subaru & S2K forums, so we should get a good mix of cars. I am doing this mostly to get some video footage, so this will NOT be at crazy fast speeds, or in any way be a "race". This is just for fun to enjoy fellow enthusiasts company, the scenery, and the driving experience. We attract enough attention when we're alone, but when you get 20 cars together, it's REALLY hard to stay "stealthy".

This will start at the Old Hechingers commuter lot on the corner of 123 and Old Bridge road in Woodbridge, VA. It's just off the 123 exit on 95.

We will leave promptly at 10am, so try to get there a little early for some groups shots.

Also, if it looks like rain, I think we'll cancel. Video cameras don't like rain.

Route:

1. Meet at the Old Hechingers commuter lot on the corner of Route 123 and Old Bridge road in Woodbridge, VA. This is right off the Route 123 exit on 95, (exit 160B from 95 North, exit 160 from 95 South) towards Occoquan, on 95.

2. Leave the North exit of the lot (the one with the light) and make a right onto Old Bridge Road

3. Left at light onto 123 North.

4. Left onto Hampton Rd. There will be signs for Fountain Head Park.

6. Left Onto Henderson.

7. Left to continue on Henderson.

8. Right to continue onto Henderson. This intersection will be at the top of a hill.

9. Left onto Clifton.

10. Right onto Main St. (645).

10 Left to continue on Clifton (645).

11. Left onto Compton. There isn't much warning for this left, so watch for it (658).

12. Right to continue on Compton (658). Union Mill will be the left, but make the right to continue on Compton.

13. Cross over Centreville, Route 28, and right after, make a right to continue on Compton (658).

14. Make a sharp right onto Bull Run, no stop.

15. Make a right onto Route 29.

16. At first light, make a left onto Pleasant Valley.

17. Left onto Left onto Herndon Way. This turns into Poland. (742)

18. We'll make a stop at the Sheetz for fuel & food and gather everyone up.

19. Take 50 West (left at light after leaving Sheetz) all the way through Middleburg. ~11 miles.

20. Right outside Middleburg 50 becomes 2 lanes again, and shortly after make a left onto Zulla (709).

21. Right onto John Marshall (55).

22. Left onto Free State, and over 66.

23. Right after you pass the 66 exits, right onto Center Hill (this is a FUN road).

24. Left onto Zachary Taylor (522).

25. Right onto Fodderstock (641).

26. Right onto 211 and on to Cooters!

The total time from Woodbridge is about 2 hours, depending on how long we stop at Sheetz, and if we stop for any video shots. Cooters is a little shop/food place at the beginning of the "fun part" of 211. It's owned by Ben Jones, who played Cooter on the Dukes of Hazard.

Yeah, Cooter's is basically just a Pit Stop to gather, talk about the drive, abd get the cameras ready for the trip(s) up 211.

Oh, if you've got radios, bring them.

I'll meet you guys in Woodbridge and drive with you as far as Clifton or Centreville depending on time. Then regrettably I must depart the group to go handle some other scheduled Monday afternoon commitments.

Hey everyone,

This was an awesome ride. Excellent route, low density traffic and great winding country roads. Getting to Cooters was as much fun as the twisties over the top of the mountain. Only three Evo's though and JBrennan had to peel off before we headed west which left two of us for the remainder of the ride. Must have been almost thirty cars in all, mostly Subies. Everything from new STi s, some very hot WRXs, a gen 2 RX-7, a respectable Civic, and even a vintage era gen 1 VW GTI.
Great day!

It was a lot of fun, even though I only made the first 30 minutes or so...

Did anybody know that we'd be rolling right through a car show in Clifton? They must have been thinking, "Where are we going to put all these cars?" Then they breathed a sigh of relief when they figured out we were just passing through...

The black one in the middle is mine...had a great time today...don't think my wife liked me doing four-wheel drifts at 70 MPH, though...

Let's see some videos!
