well, im gonna switch the hole TB exhaust before I go.... its a dead giveaway the way its so caked with soot.....

Ive had my EVO for 15 months, thats 9 more months before emmisions, but wanna do the cams within the next 6 months.... then 3 months later go to emmisions???? just wondering how everyone else does it.....

What kind of cams are you getting? and I thought New cars get their first emissions after 4 years? is MD diff.?

Dude why don't you just clean your muffler tip with soap and water? It's much easier than taking the whole TB off

there is no way a TB will pass(in MD at least), no cats...come on.... its every 2 years, maybe 2.5 years?

I may just replace the dp and mid pipe..... not that the catback from there is a big deal, why risk it...?

Im leaning toward HKS 272/272.....

Man, I didin't know MD is that strict about emissions.

hks 272's are going to be perfect for your set up --MAXIMUN POWER--- and daily driving capabilities. best of both worlds.

I would hold of on the installation unless you know a guy who will install and un-intsall it for cheap. weigh your options:
Have fun with your cams for 3 months and worry about emissions? or save the extra money for labor and wait after your done with the test and have fun for 24 months.
I'd go with the latter. If money is not an option go for it but I see your getting married ( congratulations ) I'd save it and have patience. Evo's are a working project, If you rush it you might regret it. Have patience, and its the key to success into building the ultimate machine .

BTW a friend of mine has almost the same mods you got:

272 int/ex w/arp studs

ran 12.08-12.3's consistently 114-116mph ( best 11.92 )
100 octane 24psi 1.68-1.75 60fts on a stock clutch.

so you all think I cant pass emmisions w/ the 272's eh....?
man.... that puts in a wrench to get a larger turbo also... I was looking at the AMS GT35R kit.....

Patience I have.... but not passing emmsions after that...oh well., thats like 3 years away...

If you have adjustable cam gears, you can advance the timing of the exhaust cam and retard the timing of the intake cam. This will give you less overlap between the cams, which could very well get your HC emissions low enough to pass a tailpipe sniffer test.

But if you do that, I wouldn't suggest driving any more than necessary with the cams like that.

I've heard that in MD they only do the OBD-II check on newer cars -- no sniffer. So long as you don't have things turned off in your program and you don't have a CEL, you should be fine. In NoVA, they do sniff every car. I bought my Evo used and it had to go through a two-speed idle test. Made me a little nervous with the bigger injectors, but it did fine. My cammed Camaro has passed as well in VA and its at least as lopey sounding as any 272-equipped Evo. Of course, standards are lower for a '95.

I just had mine emissions tested and since they didn't have anyway to do an AWD dyno they did a two speed idle test w/ the sniffer.

Get access to a WB02 sensor and check you EGT and A/F ratios then make sure that they are w/i spec of a stock EVO at idle and at 2500rpm

Your EGTs will tell you how your NOx and the A/F will let you know about the HCs

Also don't forget that you can get your inspection and emissions anytime that you want. They will get you the stickers that you need.

So if you want to put your cams and turbo kit on next weekend (for example) just get you tests done now get your stickers then mod away!

What emissions sticker are you talking about? In NoVA, there is only a sticker for safety. The emissions test is just something that has to be in the state's computer before they'll issue your registration when it's up for renewal.

That's correct for the NoVA emissions testing program. There are limits on how far in advance of the registration renewal you can have the test done:
