Autocross at Gingerman

OK guys and gals,

Since winter is drawing to a close and therefor so is ice racing, we need to turn our attention to other forms of entertainment.

On Sunday March 20th Fox valley sports car club (www.fvscc.com) is hosting an autocross at Gingerman raceway (www.gingermanraceway.com) this is going to be just like an autocross only on a proper track. So it is a timed one lap standing start. Each lap will use the whole course with a coned chicane on the straight to keep speeds below 70mph. There will be trophies for the winners.

Instructors will be onsite and available for anyone who needs them.

We will be having practice laps in the morning and we are shooting for 6 timed runs in the afternoon. More if we have time.

We will be running rain, shine or snow so be sure to bring the appropriate tires, no studded tires will be allowed on the track. All cars must pass the typical tech inspection, all drivers must have a valid license etc.

Here's the best part. The price is just $50.

Pre-registration is available on my www.myautoevents.com.

Whoa, cool!

I wish I'd known sooner. I've made plans to be out of town that weekend.

Do you know what class I would end up in with all my mods?

Probably either street mod or street prepared... I think we are going to be running SCCA classes. So if you have done any SCCA events you will be in your regular class. I will confirm that though.

They said no studded tires..

I don't think my tires are studded... how would I find out? their blizzak WS-50 snows (since the post said rain, shine, or snow) I'd want to make sure I had snow coverage if it were to snow, and ya know how Michigan is! Can we run snow tires if there is NOT snow on the track?

I'm new to autrocross... do they provide you a map of the track or do you just have to get a feel for the turns during your practice runs?

You would know if they were studded, they would have small metal studs sticking out of them.

The WS-50s contact patch is entirely rubber, I think. You should be fine. If it gets really warm that day though, you'll probably be at a disadvantage against people with summer tires.

EDIT: yep, the sidewall on the blizzaks say "studless" :-p

The boost controller by itself puts you in street mod.

You would have a really hard time buying studded tires without knowing it. I don't think they are legal for street use anywhere in the US, and they would have hundreds of sharp little (1/4"+ long) metal spikes sticking out of them.

You can run any tire you want (as long as it isn't studded), you can run slicks in snow if you like. I put the 'appropriate tire' comment in there to remind people that the weather literally could do anything that weekend. I'm going to be taking 2 sets of tires just to be sure I have something fun to run on.

thanks for the info... yea blizzaks are not studded then. I'd imagine I would be at a dissadvantage if the roads were completely clean and dry, but I'd mostly be going for fun anyways.

P.S> must be nice to have two sets of rims. I'd have to get my other tires mounted if wanted to use them, and I think it's too early to expect warm weather on a consistent basis by the end of this month.

Anybody know if it is a problem running a 100% alky injection with auto-x? I can always drain it and run 112 leaded for the day.

Forgive me, I know nothing about alcohol injection. Is the tank pressurized? If it is pressurized then I would highly doubt you would be allowed on the track with it. If it is not pressurized I'm not sure but I will find out for you.

It is not pressurized, it uses our intercooler spray tank to hold the alky.

So if anyone is seriously interested in coming to this we need to have you pre-register, which you can do here http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/...40023328150466

We basically need 20 people to pre-register for this event to happen. We have 7 right now. All pre-registering does is put your name down, you don't need to pay until you get to the track.

There are a few Subies signed up right now, let's not be outdone here.

Thanks.
