Yeah at the time it was just somewhere for me to hang out, and looking back he has probably helped the economy more now with the taxes I have paid on my post-college salaries, sales taxes I've paid on my impulse buys and interest I've paid on my bad decisions.
But it was relatively easy for me to come over here legally, I wouldn't have come illegally if it wasn't, now I don't have any statistics to back this up, but I think that most illegal immigrants in this area especially would jump at the chance to become citizens, and pay all the taxes that go along with it.
Most of them are here to work their asses off and provide a better life for their children and you have to respect that a certain amount, especially in the me me me culture that is the US. Now whether they should be allowed to is a different discussion.
Thinking about your question more, the UK doesn't have as big of problem of illegal immigrants, and I think it's for a number of reasons. First is that we are an island so we don't share a border with any other country and historically the only way to get in is by ship or plane. Commercial planes are easily monitored because they have to go to airports, as are commercial ships. You could try to border hop across english channel, but conditions in france are practically equal to those in the UK so once you are in france why bother with the risk of crossing another border?

I actually never said that but that brings up a good idea I have. Illegals are basically a ghost in the system. There is no record of them being born or having died. So with that the insurance adjuster would have a field day.
I wish I knew what the laws were on now for instance a Canadian coming across to have some lunch in NY with his wife. He's on his way out of the US and blasts someone on the freeway. What if he isn't insured with a Canadian agent?
Now to prevent this and Im sure this would be a border nightmare is to implement a system that would be networked for our bordering countries (Canada, Mexico) and to socialize some type of inter-country insurance system for the OTR travelers who do business in possibly all 3 countries. Kinda like a premium or add-on type coverage.
Now with the new laws coming in from a foreign country including Mexico and Canada a US passport MUST be furnished upon arrival into the USA. This should have been done 50 years ago and I highly doubt we would have the problems we have today if this was implemented. What this country needs a a laid back type of socialist reform, look at libraries. This is a perfect example of "free govt" How often have you paid to take a book from the library?
To get back on track the only way to stop illegals from infiltrating the system is to band together like we all did after 9/11 and unite as a country and voice our opinions to the Fourth Reich errr I mean the US government. Will this happen in my life time? I hope so, Ill be right there with everyone standing on the front lines asking if not pleading for equal rights. This isnt a black/white war anymore this is to save our heritage and our citizenships.
The Bill of Rights also restricts Congress' power by prohibiting it from making any law respecting establishment of religion and by prohibiting the federal government from depriving any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. Now what this means is that any citizen should be allowed anything above and beyond any non-citizen, right? People have forgot how and why this country was founded, most current politicans use it as a punchline and dont believe what they are saying, the US govt has turned into a cash cow and everyone wants their hands in it.
I have no problem with immigration and actually think its a great thing. It brings people together with different ideas and something great might happen. Look at Google for instance. But when theres people trying to make a mockery of what I believed in and fought for, then there will be problems and I will raise my voice.
But the people who look past illegals are the ones that are also part of the problem. Ole Juan Sanchez isn't getting by me if he comes around, not on my watch. I think Jim Gilchrist has the best possible program out there to open the eyes of the general public on the illegal immigration problem.

I do agree with alot of people when we say that Milwaukee is alittle trashed. Crime is a perfect example on that. I think Milwaukee is going through a long long transtition peroid were the city is trying to grow and clean the city up. But that is going to take a long time. Personally I love the area, but I havent been anywhere else except on vacations. I would never live in the city, I dont like being around alot of people. Ozaukee county is a great place to live but has different problems like very high taxes and politics. But I am close to the city and far enough away of the crime. There alot of new stores comming to Grafton and is a good thing for me around here. But I hope Milwaukee changes faster than the constuction on the interchange!
