I may be forced to run a different pair of tires on my rear wheels for the time being...leftovers I saved in case of an emergency.

Will my AWD system be damaged if they have slightly less tread than the other pair...constanly shuffling power front to rear for the difference?

When you mentioned this at the shop, I didn't catch the fact that they are different tires (in my mind I thought same tire, just used). It would probably be a bad idea.

I did that once because I got a flat and, without thinking, threw something on quick to get to where I was going.... the sound of the transfer case crying is not a pleasant one!

Even having the the same tire with different amounts of tread left can be a problem, but generally different models/brands are going to have diferent outside diameters altogether.

Thanks for the caution Nick.

Don Jacobs called and said they found some corrosion on the wheel weight that was creating a gap and thus the slow leak. They said they removed the tire, cleaned it, mounted & balanced and now everything should be ok. I don't know why they don't use stick-on weights.

I've heard of ice/snow getting packed into the bead and that causing a leak, but never corrosion of a wheel weight.

The tires I have one now are Continentals, my emergency pair are old Pirelli M&S.

Sorry for bailing so fast last night. The NBPD swarmed my court. There were litterally 10 squads outside when I got there. Some guy was chased in a stolen car and ran thru my yard from what the police told me. Too bad Eva wasnt outside to take them/he/it out
