I assume it's splitting hairs to get into brand "x" over brand "y", but then again these items will hopefully prevent my car from crushing me so I don't exactly want to skimp.

Am I safe as long as I plan on spending ~$150? I imagine every company makes cheap crap, but spend enough and they do have a good product.

I'll only be changing fluids, wheel & tire sets, etc. Not anything major...

I would not recommend any Craftsman floor jack. I have a 4ton low profile/high lift that I only used 10 times on the evo and the O-ring is shot. Replaced it and still didn't work. Took it apart and hydralic piston was cracked. They're now made in China and not warrantied after a year.

I got a Harbor Freight Rapid Pump 2 ton aluminum racing jack and works great so far after 5 uses.

I've had a craftsman for 6 years and its worked like a charm since the day I bought it. Maybe they didn't warranty your jack b/c they dont like you.

My craftsman has been good for 6 years now. Not a race jack though.

I've also had good luck with Craftsman, so they definitely just didn't like you.

That was the one that was too heavy to use though, so I'm using some no-name jack at the moment.

I'd consider an aluminum jack if I get to the point that I'm changing tires at events. They seem pretty sweet.

All the reviews I've read when mine died all say the O-ring breaks down ever since the newer ones are made in China/Tawain.

Damn Sears, I'm now a DeWalt guy.

Does anyone know if its part number #MR581295

If it were your car would you replace it before a long 16 hour, 1200mile drive?
personally im thinkin i may get one over nighted....

WHO did you say you just replaced one for-did you say it was Laakness i believe?

Laak-where did you buy yours? fix the leak? also do you have the part number (does it match the one i mentioned above?)

i talked to one guy who said it took him replacing it three times to stop the leak!

One of those advans had a MAJOR leak...
guess it was a good thing i wasnt able to make it to AutoX

--------------

on the topic of jacks/stands...i agree with traction about not getting a massive 100lb one-itll end up collecting dust usually. Too heavy and big to bring to track events, and sometimes too TALL to clear the sideskirt!
The clearance issue is an problem with even some of the smaller jacks.

I bought mine in a "package" from a shop in Denver-ill look up the name-its a pretty wellknown manufacturer. It came with a jack, two jackstands, and leverage bar. They had same kit with four jackstands. Both come with a handy accessory kit-an extra wheel for the jack, oil/lube, etc. Good package at a great price

Nope, not me. I've never replaced the seal on the transfer case.
