Normally i always do oil changes my self for my race cars and ususally get deals for my DD trhough the Stealerships. Well i called up and its gonna be $70 to do a full Mobil 1 change + some other ****. Thats crazy talk. What do you guys say, should i just do it my self for 6 bux a quart or let them do it? If i should just go to a dealership/place let me know what you guys do for your evos

Now that I have a garage I change my own (except in the winter). Not having a floor jack kinda makes it a pain, and honestly, despite the satisfaction I get doing it on my own, I'm not sure it's worth the time...disposing your own oil is a drag, IMO, as well.
Is the filter easy to access on the X? I have to ask since it took me forever to find the filter on my wife's SI.

Just do it yourself. It's not a big deal, especially since it sounds like you're used to it. I don't even take the DD in mainly because I want it done when I have a chance to do it quick. It's not worth it for me to drive to the dealership or quick-lube place and wait.

Agreed, I always do it myself. Just a pain because the center lift point in the front is covered by the under tray. Also I found 30 miles extra on a full tank when I switched to Royal Purple.

I take mine to a local independent repair place. I bring my own oil and filter and they charge me $17.17 for all my cars. It's worth it to me not to have to get undertray pieces off.
I would never take it to a quick lube place, and I would worry about it at the dealer (I'm really paranoid), somehow I trust these guys though.

Oh yea, I forgot there is an undertray piece that has to come off to do an oil change on a X. I haven't had an undertray on my VIII for years, but I don't think the oil change requires removal of it.

I thought I remembered the oil filter is behind the under tray on the x when looking at Ryan's car with a removable cover for each oil drain and filter.

It's a hassle to get the center panel off to put a jack under it then throw stands underneath to get started, but I usually just take my time when I'm under there. You also need a pick or hook to get to pull on the push panel clips that are recessed in the deep parts.
What some people have done is cut a hole in the middle section by the jack point so they can just slide the jack underneath w/o taking it off. Then throw the car up on stands. There's just one panel to remove to access the drain bolt and filter.

When I was in school, I worked at a quick lube place that did 100+ oil changes/day. Now I hate doing oil changes laying on my back. Luckily (haha, yeah) stuff breaks often enough that I just do it whenever the car's on the lift I also permenantly removed the access door on my X, so it's not bad either way.

Lithe, if you want a free (kinda crappy, but functional) floor jack, let me know. It doesn't fit under my car anymore, so I have to get a racing jack...

You know, you could just use the jack points on the side of the car. I almost never use the front one. Sure you have to lift the car twice (once per side), but you can get it higher.

If you use the side points to jack it up, how do you put the stand underneath it?
I'm not about to get under a car without proper jackstands in place.
