I wouldn't put a 255 on a stock wheel unless you have to. It will fit, but you will be giving up some sidewall support. Do they make the Azenis in a 245/40/17 or 245/45/17? I would probably go with one of those on the stock wheel, I would probably get a 255 over a 235, but you may need to play some alignment games to stop them from rubbing.

What are you going to be using these tires for? General all season driving? AutoX? Track days? Winter driving?

A 255/40R17 will fit. You should check the tread width and make sure it's not a wide 255. You may run into rubbing problems with it though.

Depending on price etc I would go with one of the following.. This is my personal experience with all of them. (Disclaimer: add 'for an all season tire' to the end of every sentence)

Kumho ASX - Cheap, decent all-season in the dry and wet, useable in the snow. probably best bang for the buck.

Continental Contact Extreme - Best all-season tire I've driven in the snow, not horribly noisy, but not quiet, rides good, handles OK in the dry, great in the wet decent wear. Loads of fun at Gingerman in the wet/slush.

Pirelli P-Zero Nero - Great in the wet and dry, better than the Kumho but not as good as the conti in the snow, quieter than the conti's.

If it were my money and I wasn't broke I would get the conti's. But I really don't screw around on the street much anymore. For the best dry 'summer' tire you can use in the winter get the P-Zero nero.

Then you need an Advan. Actually you really don't want to put a 255 tire on the stock rim if the 'feel' is important. The loss in sidewall stability will make it feel somewhat sloppy. For a great 'feel' would be stretching a 225 azeni onto that wheel, but you'll be giving up some grip.
