I use the Falken ziex 512's in the snow and they were great. Took the Evo up sking in the Utah Mountains a few times, and had it in at least 6" of snow. It really was fun to drive in those conditions. These are great tires in the snow.

I have the Yokohama AVS winter tires and they are great. This will be my third winter with the tires, using them Oct-Mar.
I drove through Washington Park right after the big snow in December (8+ inches) and I could never really get the car to get sideways. That told me that my car will stay straight even if I take evasive manuvers in regular traffic.
Make sure you get out of those stock tires as soon as it regularly gets in the 40's. Cold messes up winter tire traction and it's even worse in SNOW.
