Damn, I had to pay $75 for doing 42 mph in a 35 mph zone, talk about being a total dick and not cutting me any slack. Luckily I still have the stock exhaust and don't get hustled by the cops.

The law I quoted above doesn't apply to motorcycles; the Illinois Vehicle Code is very specific about referring to motorcycles and "motor vehicles" separately. (Even if you read 12-602 as referring to motorcycles, most of them are actually that loud from the factory, giving them essentially a free pass.)

I'm about to get my new TBE for my WRX, im not worried about getting a noise ticket. I'll still going to using a cat, one of my friends/ co-workers has a full invidia TBE on his 06 WRX TR and hes doesn't get hassled by the cops and his exhaust is loud as **** (full straight pipe to the N1 muffler).

We have a cat-less full exhaust and up-pipe on our WRX, and all you hear is a low rumble, because we're using a silencer, and because our cheap eBay exhaust (Megan) has a good (but straight-through) muffler at the end that the silencer works well with, and two additional resonators earlier in the exhaust.

Never underestimate the value of a removable silencer. We've been pulled over in that car before because of a missing front plate, and the officers didn't bat an eye at the exhaust. As far as they were concerned, it was just a station wagon without a front plate.

This is just one more reason for me to NEVER switch over to Illinois plates.
